The moment I got the call that I was going to be an aunt for the first time, I cried. I could not contain my excitement. All I wanted to do was go out and buy cute things that said "I love my aunt" or "My aunt is cool" I mean, they might as well learn early, right?
I was so excited the day I got a little blessing call me Aunt Bay, then three years later, I got yet another blessing to call me Aunt Bay too. I never knew the impact my two nieces could have on me and I have learned so much from them. I have learned how to be a better person, to see the world in a different light and to always smile because I will always have them.
As an aunt, all you want your nieces and nephews to have is happiness and laughter. You want to give them everything you can. I will never be able to repay to my nieces what they have taught me and what they will teach me in the future. I'm telling you, the biggest thing that could ever brighten up my day is hearing "I love you, Aunt Bay". In a world full of heart, pain, sorrow and struggle, those words can lift up my spirits and know that there is still innocence and pure hearts in this world.
How did I ever live without my nieces? I ask myself that question all the time. I never knew I needed such a love in my life, but now that I have them I could never ever live without them. All the aunts everywhere can understand me when I say nieces and nephews make you try the hardest to be the best person you can be and you do it all for them. You strive each day to love a little differently and to always be happy. I know ever since I held my first niece that I was going to become a different person. Not that who I was before was bad, but just looking at my niece's sweet face taught me right then that I was going to see everything differently. I saw such a peaceful face getting ready to take on the world.
Now, being an Aunt is like a comedy show, too. You see the absolute craziest times that your nieces and nephews have gone through. I always am in tears by the time I leave from visiting my nieces because there is just never a dull moment with them. They seriously need to start a toddler and baby comedy round-up show. You can bet that I'd be in the front row every night. They say laughter is the best medicine and they're right. Become an aunt and you'll have the best medicine there is.
I will never forget to stop and smile each day, because I am an aunt. How could you not smile? You have blessings of nieces and nephews that will always call on you if they need it and trust me, you will get those calls. Maybe not know, but someday you will. You will always be there for your nieces or nephews because it is the least you can do after all they've given you already.
