Black Lives Matter Is Not A Trend

As the news dies down on this movement and we see less posts on social media, we have to remember that this fight is not over.

**Trigger Warning**

Over the past few weeks we have seen the power the people have through the black lives matter movement. A movement that has not only affected the United States, but the world. This is showing that we are not alone in this fight and this is what the world feels.

A movement of this momentum must continue and through the next coming weeks we need to make sure we are able to keep the movement a live. We are already seeing less and less posts being made online as well as fewer protests. This does not mean the movement is over, we still have a whole lot of fighting to do. The mainstream media is going to stop reporting about this movement as soon as the protests fizzle out and they don't care if the movement dies out.

BLM is not a trend. We are creating change and history at this very moment and to stop would mean to stop our progress. We have already done so much and why should we stop there. Just because George Floyd's murderer was arrested, doesn't mean that everyone has been served justice.

Breonna Taylor. Tamir Rice. Ahmaud Arbery. Trayvon Martin. Atatiana Jefferson. Sandra Bland. And the list keeps going.

These are names that we can't stop fighting for, these are people who DESERVE justice. Just like George Floyd. These murders of innocent black people cannot continue and police brutality is an abuse of power which needs to be regulated and stopped.

There's more we have to do even after the news cycle has moved on. What can you do to keep up the momentum even though the media has seemingly moved on? Continue to sign petitions, it only takes a matter of seconds to sign. Donate to bail funds/black or anti-racist organizations or to the families of the victims. Hold brands accountable for their actions, if they aren't diversifying their feeds/models/or business, as well as donating to any racists organizations - call them out! Join organizations in that are in your local community to keep helping out. Continue to diversify your bookshelf, your feed, where you buy and eat from. Educate yourself on history that you may not have learned in class.

There's things we can do to make sure this movement wasn't just a short blip, but that it did change the world. We have already seen how the protest has changed things including the arrest of George Floyd's murderers, L.A. and New York to defund their police, and Breonna Taylor's case reopened.

We can continue to do more for the black community and continue to change the world for the better.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
