The past year revealed way more than we were hoping. For 65 million plus, we were looking forward to somebody OTHER than Trump assuming the most powerful office in the land. It took some time, but after January 20, we saw blatantly obvious signs that this president would not work. From his travel ban to the wall not yet being built, and ending most recently with the repeal of net neutrality, this presidency and, by proxy, the year proved to be a bumpy ride right from the start. There were some good moments, there were some bad moments. Here is a month-by-month of all major events that happened in that particular month.

January:

20th: Trump gets inaugurated.

21st: Women’s March on Washington.

February:

5th: New England Patriots complete the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history, coming from a 28-3 deficit late in the 3rd quarter to defeat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in OT to win Super Bowl LI.

March:

28th: Brexit negotiations get triggered.

April:

5th: North Korea’s missile tests are underway.

22nd: March for Science occurs after Trump cuts funding for the EPA.

May:

7th: Emmanuel Macron becomes President of France, defeating far-right candidate Marine Le Pen.

9th: FBI Director James Comey is fired because of his involvement in the Russian Investigation.

17th: Robert Mueller is appointed as Special Counsel into 2016 election interference by Russia.

June:

1st: The U.S. withdraws from Paris Climate Accord, the only country to do so.

12th: Thousands of arrests take place during anti-corruption protests in Russia, aimed at the government of Vladimir Putin.

July:

20th: O.J. Simpson is granted parole, released in October.

20th: Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park, commits suicide.

August:

21st: Total solar eclipse occurs over America.

September:

24th: Angela Merkel wins the fourth term as chancellor of Germany.

October:

1st: Stephen Paddock opens fire from his Mandalay Bay hotel room in Las Vegas during a music festival, killing 59 and wounding 527.

27th: First person to get charged in the Russia investigation is Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign manager.

November:

23rd: Annual turkey pardons happen.

December:

1st: Michael Flynn is the next in line to be charged by the special counsel for their involvement in the Russia Investigation.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
