The summer of 2016 is one that I will never forget. Not because Kim Kardashian caught Taylor Swift lying, or because Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth might be back together, or even because Kanye West released a really awkward music video. I'm going to remember this summer because our country experienced the biggest mass murder it has ever seen, because of the mistreatment of African Americans by police officers, and the attack back at innocent officers that had nothing to do with it. I will remember this summer for the presidential election that is going to happen in only four months between two candidates that I don't think deserve to be running to represent our country.
I'm so incredibly done with the people in this country that have influence over everyone. Singers, actors, politicians and even talentless people like Kim K have such a big voice in the world; we worship the ground they work on everyday. When they update their snapchat stories and their Instagram feeds, we clench onto whatever information they are feeding us, no matter if it's relevant to what is really happening in the world right now.
But what really should be happening, is not. Those big voices should be directing us to be safer, to be kinder, and to seek change in our world. They should be influencing us to love our neighbors, to teach the youth what is right in the world and to encourage one another to follow our dreams. But, instead, they are feeding our minds with useless drama and entertainment. And although it's a distraction from the hurt that is happening, it's time that everyone steps up just a little bit and starts taking steps to not letting this world go to shit. I wish that the past couple of days weren't centered around a stupid, useless video about Taylor Swift, but instead I wish we could hear what Kim has to say about #blacklivesmatter or what she thinks would be best for this coming up election.
I love to see Selena and Kim and Taylor showing their voices, I just wish they would be using it for good.
