Big Hair Don't Care

Some say it's a blessing. Others who actually have it say it is a curse. What is the "it" that I am referring to? Big Hair. Whether it's curly, wavy, nappy, or just plain ol' voluminous, big hair is not something that can be fully understood unless you have it. Here are daily occurrences that every girl with big hair deals with:

1. When you wake up your hair's volume could rival the size of a small country.

The size you Genovia perhaps?

2. Humidity

It is like a gift. If there is any chance of precipitation your hair will notify you.

3. You do have your good days...

And honey, when those good days happen you milk it for all it is worth. Those days are also known as infinite selfie days.

4. Frizz

No matter what you do it's always there. You can't hide from it. It will find you!

5. Wind

On windy days you wish you looked like the woman above but in all actuality your hair looks like a wayward nest for homeless birds.

6. Your hair grows bigger before it grows longer.

Not entirely sure that this scientifically possible but that is how it feels.

7. What is a brush?

You don't brush your hair at all, because if you did you would look like exhibit A^^^.

8. "Why don't you straighten your hair more often?"

Well there is a lot of reasons:

a) You may or may not be capable of straightening your hair by yourself.

b) Hot things scare you.

c) You would bare a striking resemblance to Cousin It.

9. The stupid amount of money you spend on products

"Did I really just spend $50 on shampoo?"

10. The Theories

It seems like there are so many theories on how to take care of curly hair. It can be a little confusing finding which one works for you. Talk about trial and error.

11. People pet you

Does this coffee shop remind you of a petting zoo? Paws off ma'am.

12. Rain

You will look like a homeless wet rat and then when you dry, a frizzy homeless rat.

13. You shed more than the average house cat.

It gets worse when the weather changes... Woohoo Fall! Am I right?

14. Trying to tame it.

15. Realizing you can never tame it.

16. Trying a new haircut...

and immediately regretting it. What have you done?!?!

17. Frizz. Again

Honestly we all know why it has to be on the list twice.

18. "Is your hair naturally curly?"

Ha! You think I would choose this life? This life chose me.

19. There is not enough conditioner in the world.

No matter what you do, your hair is always thirsty.

20. The eternal war you have with hair ties.

One of the most embarrassing moments of my life was when my hair tie broke in the middle of class and slapped my crush in the face. You can't just walk that off.

21. Being #Blessed

Curly hair can undoubtedly be a struggle but, believe it or not it is beautiful! Embrace your extra large hair and work it girl.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
