1. He promises to solve problems
Everyone loves a problem solver and that is what Trump says he can do. Basically, Trump is like a seventh grader running for student body president. He says he will build a wall between Mexico and the U.S. (with Mexico paying) and promises to repeal Obamacare just like a seventh-grade kid promises no homework and ice cream for lunch. It is appealing, and the seventh-grade kid usually wins, but the problems never get solved and those poor kids still have homework.
2. He is not a politician
He is a businessman. I repeat, he has never run for office before. Therefore, he is new, exciting, and intriguing. With many politicians running for president you’ve seen how they are in office and you know how they work. You usually already have an opinion on them or can find out information about their party platform. With Trump and many other presidential candidates who are businessmen, you don’t yet know how they run their office, therefore you are intrigued and more inclined to listen to them. By also not being a politician, Trump brings a new and exciting aspect to the presidential election.
3. He has no filter
He straight out says what he wants, when he wants, and he never has to worry about his reputation. I would compare him to the popular mean girls in middle school. They call people fat, ugly, and weird, yet they are still considered “popular.” Just like the mean girls in seventh grade, you are too afraid to stand up to them in fear of them dunking your head in the toilet (honestly, would not be surprised if Trump did that as a kid). Trump says some nasty racist and sexist comments on Twitter, and even though he gets called out on them, he is still popular! He also continues to trash and belittle his Democratic and Republican opponents, which is rude, uncalled for, and tacky.
4. He has a lot of money
As much as we don’t like it, money makes the world go round, and Trump has a lot. Money makes campaigns run. The more money you have, the more you can have commercials, hats (*cough cough* “Make America great again”), and every kind of paraphernalia that has the campaign logo on it. As for Trump— he has Trump towers, Trump water, and even Trump steak— so money for getting his name out there is not an issue. If Trump was not already so well known and super rich, he would not even be considered as a top candidate.
PAUSE. Can we all take a moment and realize that if he was elected he will most likely rename the White House the “Trump House...”
I know I am being hypocritical as I write this, but the main reason he is still so popular is because he sparks conversations and publicity. I am like 99.99 percent sure that his favorite motto is “There is no such thing as bad publicity.” He is constantly talked about in conversations on the street and in conversations on the television, meaning if you didn’t know his name before, you know it now. So, that’s the big fuss. To sum it up, he is basically a seventh-grade girl who is different, sparks drama, promises big dreams, and has a lot of money. #sorrynotsorry
