Big Family, Lots Of Love

There's most likely the adult table, kids table, uncle table, aunt table, dog table, gossip table, you name it...I bet you have one in your family. Big family is meant for lots of good food, laughs, love, and sometimes big fights, but you wouldn't have it any other way.

1. Never being heard...like ever.

2. Being stuck at the "kids table," when you're 18-19 years old...I'm a legal adult, therefore the adult table is where I shall be seated.

3. There's NEVER enough food at family get-togethers, mainly 'cause all the men in the family decide they want to go back for seconds, thirds or even fourths. I guess grandma's cooking is just that good!

4. When everyone is parked outside of a house...it looks like you're having a concert, or a cult meeting.

5. The youngest members are constantly looked over, and often forgotten about.

6. So are the eldest...they're probably asleep in a chair with their dentures slowly falling out, and no one asks where Gigi is.

7. No one will notice if you're not there...if you bring a friend, or if a random hobo walks in to steal some turkey, they might mistake them for one of your country cousins even.

8. Normally your opinion will never matter...so don't even try speaking.

9. Names will often be mixed up, multiple times.

10. Someone just finished a story about your aunt Jackie, and someone else walks up and says, "Have you heard the story about Aunt Jackie?"

11. There's no point in inviting a lot of people to the wedding...you guys ARE the wedding.

12. Clothes get passed down...and down...and down...and down...

13. If you take a big family trip and wear the same color, for example orange, you all look like a runaway group of criminals.

14. When someone FINALLY has a baby...

15. Don't think you can take a nap at a family get-together...it's like taking one at a screamo concert.

16. "Can I..." 42 people say "NO" at the same time.

17. There is a ton of "remember that time when..."

18. There are stories that everyone has heard a ton of times...but still laughs at anyway.

19. On your birthday, if none of your friends tell you happy birthday...don't worry...you've got 50+ people who will.

20. There's always someone to hug you, kiss your cheek, and make you feel wanted when you have had the worst days possible.

21. There's that one family member.

22. Carpooling should never be an option.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
