Watching "Big Brother" with my mother has been a summer tradition for as long as I can remember. As much as I realize that the show has plenty of faults, I'll probably be watching it until it goes off air. If I were to enter the house, I would be considered a "superfan" easily. The newest season premiered the other day, so here are my thoughts on the new crop of contestants. I'll be ranking them by my assessment of their skills, as well as my personal feelings and predictions for how they'll turn out. This contains some spoilers from the first and second episodes. Going from worst to best, let's begin!
17. Josh
Where do I begin with Josh? I had a bad feeling about this guy from the moment he entered the house. When he took that golden apple during the first HOH competition, it absolutely confirmed my suspicions that this guy is not going to go far. From crying on the second day of the competition to his insane "gut feelings" that Megan was going after him, he's already made a few mistakes. I don't see him lasting long, unless his athletic ability can push him forward for a little while.
16. Cameron
Honestly, I was upset to see him go so early on. I was hoping to be able to see him in action (I have a soft spot for the nerdy guys). But because he was evicted so early and didn't do anything particularly interesting while he was in the house, he gets the second lowest spot on this list.
15. Cody
I'm not entirely convinced this guy isn't a cyborg. He's a competition beast and has the best poker face and blank stare I've seen on this show like...ever. I'm not sure if everyone will agree with me on this, but I find this dude a bit unsettling. I think some of the houseguests agree, and with the added target of being the first HOH of the summer, he's going to really need to up his social game and hold on to his physical prowess.
14. Alex
I don't have anything against Alex, but I feel like she's making herself out to be smarter than she actually is. She's really playing up the "I'm a video game nerd so I know strategy angle," and when people do that, often they don't actually know what they're doing here.
13. Jillian
Meh. I can see Jillian being a floater and eventually getting evicted because she was just one of the only ones left. I don't trust her to keep secrets well, but I also don't see her doing anything interesting in the house. I only have her above Alex because at least she isn't bragging about her skills.
12. Megan
*possible spoilers from the live feeds in here* When Megan was first introduced, I thought she was a total badass. I still stand by that in some ways, but she just wasn't cut out for the house. From what I've read, her anxiety got the best of her. I think if she had stuck around, she would have been good physically and mentally. She did already have a sort of team going, too. Maybe once she's better under pressure she'll be able to try again.
11. Jessica
While I don't think she'll be particularly good at anything else, I can see Jessica really working her good looks into a good social game. The boys all seem to love her, and with her work experience, I'm sure she can woo them easily. Would I be happy that's how she got far if she does? No. But would I give her some props? Yeah.
10. Elena
Though a bit abrasive, I like Elena so far. I see her being a very loyal player, yet still being able to do what's best for herself — a very useful skill to have in the house. She has the capacity to play a great social game if she teams up with the right people.
9. Ramses
Ah, a fellow superfan. Ramses is adorable but knows what he's talking about. I'm hoping he won't let on to most people how much he knows because then he'll be putting a target on his back. In the "outsider" group of the house (as Cody called it), I would love to see him team up with Paul and kick some butt in this game with their combined knowledge from both sides of the fence.
8. Christmas

7. Kevin
Kevin has already taken on a fatherly role in the house, as the oldest player and owner of the most children. This could work for or against him, and I think it all depends on how he acts. Personally, I think he's pretty cool. He is a bit spacey and doesn't seem to know literally anything about past seasons. But, I see him being able to manipulate a lot of people, and he definitely knows how to look out for himself, judging by his choice to take the 25k.6. Jason
I have high hopes for Southern sweetheart Jason. He's won me over already, and I'm sure the house feels the same way. I totally agree with his decision to evict Christmas...I just hope she doesn't find out about it. I don't know how he will be in mental competitions, but physically he seems to be doing okay. His strength definitely lies in his genuinely nice personality. The only reason I didn't rank him high enough was because I'm not sure if he'll be able to overcome his loyalties and tell some lies if need be.
5. Raven
Another one who I've personally fallen for is Raven. She's adorable, but I sense a hidden dark side within her. Like Ramses, I'm hoping she'll be able to team up with Paul and create a solid alliance that will go until the end.
4. Dominique
To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what it is that I see in Dominique. I believe she will be able to be very strong mentally and socially but also go under the radar. I hope she doesn't go into floater territory, just that she makes good decisions and plays the underdog role. I sense greatness.
3. Mark
I don't see anyone gunning for Mark anytime soon, though it would probably be in most houseguests' favor to do so. He is obviously quite physically adept, but also has such a good personality for this game. I think his personality will keep him off the block for a while despite his strength, and I'm hoping by that time he'll have enough ties in the house to be able to keep himself safe. I do worry about his ties with Cody, though; they could put him in danger.
2. Matt
What a cutie. Let's be real here, I'm a little in love with Matt already. I feel like he'll be a great triple threat. All I'm hoping for is that he doesn't fall down the showmance rabbit hole.
1. Paul
I literally screamed when this man came back onto my TV. I was a huge fan of him last season, even though he made some questionable decisions. Once he gets a good inner circle going, Paul will be able to get far again. I think this cast will be able to create enough drama to divert from his veteran status, and if he keeps winning them over, he'll be golden.
Cheers to a great season, it should be an interesting one!
