College is a stressful time for many of us. We are trying to balance being a successful academic student, being involved in clubs and organizations, all while trying to maintain a normal social life.
As students, we are constantly reminded of how important our grades are. Throughout our entire college careers, we base our personal worth and identify on a few numbers: our GPA, the percentage on the top of a test, a project, and so on.
In case any of you haven't realized, this is a huge problem. Instead of basing our worth off of all of these materialistic things, we should be finding our worth and identity in Christ.
Here are five Bible verses for any college student who is feeling stressed and unworthy:
1. Psalm 139:14
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
Before we ever entered into this world, God formed us in his image. He made us into the beautiful, strong, and courageous people that we are, even though sometimes we do not always see those qualities in ourselves. He knew us and made every intricate and beautiful aspect of each and every one of us.
2. Psalm 46:5
"God is within her, she will not fail."
Throughout my college career, this is one Bible verse that I have tried to keep in my mind and in my heart. No matter what society tells us or how many doubts we have about any situation in our lives, it is important to remember that God is always with us. He is in every situation, every minute of every day, and in everything that we do. With him, we cannot fail.
3. Proverbs 31:25
"She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future."
We are strong and dignified. We are worthy of respect. We are stronger than we realize and our futures are bright. So often we spend so much time worrying about the future when we should really be laughing and rejoicing because God is in our corner and he has our back.
4. John 15:5
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
In college, it can be easy to disconnect with God and our relationship with him. Like the verse above say, he is the vine and we are the branches. If you think about a real vine, the branches get their nutrients and fruit from the vine, this is the same thing with us and God.
When we are connected with him we will bear fruit. We will be happier, we will be courageous, we will have more inner peace. If we stay connected to him all of the hardships that we face will be easier to overcome, even if we do not realize it.
5. Luke 12:22-23
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes."
In life, we cannot worry about the little things. Life is so much more than a GPA or a grade on a test or a paper. So what if your GPA drops from a 3.5 to a 3.4 or 3.3. So what if you get a B+ on your paper instead of an A, the world is going to keep revolving. Life goes on.
In life, we need to focus on doing what makes us happy and focus on loving ourselves and each other. Whenever you find yourself feeling discouraged or stressed out, I encourage you to read these verses and stop and reflect on the imporant things in life.
