Beware Of Internet Trends

We live in a time where the world has gone to hell and everything around us is crumbling. But don't worry, there is hope. And the hope is the internet. Any problem you have can be solved by a quick search on Google. From that fallen tree on your house to the zombie apocalypse, there's someone on the Internet who's already had your problem and someone else has found the solution. And really, what's with our obsession with the zombie apocalypse? I mean, I love Cillian Murphy as much as the next person (have you seen those cheekbones?) but I'm still confused. Hm. To Google!

In all seriousness, the Earth is actually falling apart right before our eyes but I'll save my pretentious rant about the hoarding of land and resources for another article. In the mean time, consider going vegan. I hear the benefits are endless.

There is something more perilous at hand and that is Internet Trends. Articles and YouTube videos about the miraculous properties of Coconut Oil abound. And we can't forget about the anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, fat-burning properties of apple cider vinegar. Use it as a shampoo, a face cleanser, drink it with your lemon tea. Use it as mouthwash. It's a great detangler, too! Last year, we were all about the Paleo diet, this year being vegan is all the rage. Who am I kidding? Being vegan is always all the rage.

My mother is even putting raw egg, honey, and cinnamon in her hair as a deep conditioner. She heard it was a good protein treatment and the cinnamon colors her grays. Egg is protein but most likely, the size of the protein in the egg won't actually penetrate the hair shaft, rendering the purpose of

Now, it probably seems as though I am a perpetual skeptic whose thoughts are run by corporate America. And to some degree, of course my thoughts are influenced by corporate America. Aren't we all? But the truth is, if the trend is natural, I most likely have tried it. And a lot of them are great for me. My hair loves coconut oil and aloe vera gel really is a great toner for my skin. But there is a dangerous side to these trends.

Maybe Freelee on YouTube has convinced you to go vegan. That's great, really. But maybe the strictly raw vegan diet, while it has cured your depression and you feel great for a month, causes you to have Candida and your hair falls out, you get all these health problems.

Maybe the apple cider vinegar you used as a shampoo last night was too acidic and now your hair feels really weird, maybe too soft. And maybe the last time you tried use coconut oil as a moisturizer, your acne got worse.

What gives?

Well, I'll tell you. While all of these life hacks have been working for everyone and their mother on YouTube, you are not them. What works for one person might be a terrible idea for you. What I'm saying is, if you already have a great diet, a hair and skin regimen that works for you, don't change what works. Just do you, man. These life hacks or lifestyle changes can help you for the better but maybe do a little research before putting activated charcoal in your mouth all for the sake of whiter teeth. Choose whatever trends you want to follow but remember to always just do you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
