To My Better Half

Here are some things you always need to know.

To My Better Half
Mary Kathryn Harris

To my other half,

When I first met you, I knew that I was in trouble. I didn't feel lust or nervous, but I felt completely at home and at peace, and I still do. You put up with my changing moods. We make sure to never go to bed while mad at each other. You understand me, as much as anyone can. You saved me from myself and continue to do so. I am so beyond blessed to have you. I am writing this letter as a sort of public appreciation for all you do for me. This list is not complete by any means, but I wanted to highlight a few of the things to show you how much I appreciate you. These are just a few things because our love is not something we want on broadcast for everyone but just our own. However, you deserve to know, every single day, how much I appreciate you. So, here are a few things:

Thank you for motivating me.

While you were still in college, we would have study dates. Now, I have two semesters left of this degree, and you keep me focused on the path to success, even when I would rather talk to you than read. You push me to be the best person I can be. Being over an hour away from one another is not always the easiest thing, but I wouldn't want to be with anyone else.

Thank you for encouraging me.

I am pretty positive that I am one of the biggest worry-warts on this planet, especially when it comes to grades. However, you listen to all of my worries and calm my anxiety. You never stop reminding me that I am able to handle anything I set my mind to, and I am so thankful for that.

Thank you for taking care of me.

You always make sure I am taken care of, whether that means I get to be a cover-hog or that I need a massage after working out with you. Even though you aren't vegan, you always make sure that I have something to eat, not simply a salad.

Thank you for adventuring with me.

From hikes to grocery stores, we are always finding a way to see happiness in the simple things. We can take a simple late night car ride to be a great time to talk and get to know even more about each other. No matter how intense the hikes are or how expensive some of those stores are, I will always love experiencing them with you.

Thank you for planning a future with me.

I know we are engaged, so planning a future is something that is supposed to happen. However, we have been talking about our future from basically when we starting having feelings for one another. I love how you we go and look at houses in nice neighborhoods and think about what our future house will be like for our little family. I am thankful for that God gave you to me to spend the rest of my life with.

Thank you for loving me.

Thank you. I know that I am sometimes very sassy and very stubborn, but you always seem to talk me down and tell me you love me. You never judge me, even though we both have very strong opinions. Since meeting you, my heart is overflowing with love. I'm so glad that I found the love of my life, my best friend, my other half, and so much more. I love you no matter what.

All my love,

The one who will always love you

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
