The Best And Worst Things About Having A Younger Sister

WORST:

1. When they're younger, they tell on you for EVERYTHING. When we were really little my sister, Jasmine, would run and tell my parents if I pushed her when we were playing or if I said something mean, and even if she did something to me first, and because I was the oldest I would get in trouble. As we got older, the same scenario played out. Like when I was 15, Jasmine found three beers in my closet and immediately ran and told my mom. No matter what the circumstance, I guarantee I would be the one taking the blame since she was the “baby."

2. They borrow your clothes without asking. When Jasmine and I were not the same size in clothing, she would still go into my closet and borrow shirts without asking, even though they blatantly didn't fit her. Now that we are pretty close in size, she still does the same thing, but now I get to steal her clothes too, so I can pay her back for all the “borrowing" she did when we were younger.

3. When they're younger, they try to copy you. I know as her older sister I am supposed to be a role model for Jasmine, but it used to get so unbelievably annoying when we were little. She'd copy what I did or said and would try to play with me and my friends. My parents never understood it since my mom is an only child and my dad only has one brother and no sisters, but it would drive me crazy. They would think it was so sweet that she wanted to be like me, but honestly, it drove me insane. Luckily we don't have that problem anymore.

BEST:

1. You live with a best friend. Jasmine and I have always been close, but recently, as we've both gotten older, we have definitely become a lot closer. She no longer hides everything in fear of me judging her or laughing at her, she instead confides in me. I know I can talk to her about whatever's bothering me and I hope she knows she can do the same. Family vacations are a lot more fun now that we have more similar interests.

2. You can pour all your anger out on them. I know that when I'm ridiculously frustrated, angry, or stressed I can text Jasmine and just vent to her, even if she doesn't give me super long answers back. When I'm looking for heartfelt advice, she's not always the one I go to first, but she definitely is when I strictly want to vent. Some of the time it's her that's bothering me anyway, so I know I can angrily text her and she will angrily text back, but in the end we're fine and love each other just the same.

3. You have someone to make fun of your parents/siblings with. There are so many things my parents do or say that Jasmine and I make fun of. Inside jokes between siblings are the best kind, and whether they're about our parents, our little brother, or Friends, we know that the other will laugh and know exactly what we are talking about right away.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
