Best Ways To Eat Potatoes, Ranked From Worst To Best

This is a tribute to potatoes. They're one of the most versatile foods and are delicious. Need I say anything more?

22. Potato salad

Pictured are traditional potato salad and French potato salad. While they're both delicious, I would be lying if I said I would choose them over, say, fries.

21. Potato wedges

Decent, but eh. Definitely not my favorite.

20. Mashed potatoes

Great topped with butter and Grandma's gravy and served along a nice cut of meat, but pretty meh to just eat.

19. Potato pancakes

Potato pancakes can be delicious when made right, but I wouldn't eat them at just any time of day.

18. Roasted potatoes

This is a yummy way to serve potatoes with dinner, but I couldn't eat them every day.

17. Breakfast potatoes

Definitely wouldn't be my first choice of potato, but they're pretty decent alongside bacon.

16. Garlic mashed potatoes

What else do you serve with steak at a nice steak house?

15. Mashed sweet potatoes

Delicious, but not my favorite way to eat sweet potatoes.

14. Baked sweet potatoes

One time my mom found a recipe that had baked sweet potatoes topped with bacon, maple syrup, and goat cheese...I think. It was amazing.

13. Scalloped potatoes

Potatoes + cheese = yum.

12. Potato chips

Potato chips are fantastic! And there are so many different ways you can have them: baked, original, ruffled or kettle cooked. My favorites are salt and vinegar and Sriracha/jalapeño.

11. Gnocchi

Gnocchi is truly beautiful. It melts in your mouth and complements any sauce well.

10. Twice baked potatoes

I mean... It's potatoes... with yummy stuff in them...

9. Sweet potato fries

Sweet potato fries are such a nice treat in the fall, and they're perfectly sweet and salty.

8. Chili cheese fries

Chili and cheese go very well with potatoes, but especially greasy potatoes.

7. French fries

I prefer crunchy fries over steak fries, but to each their own. Bonus: truffle fries. Yum.

6. Curly fries

Eating things in cool shapes just makes everything so much better. Why else would you buy macaroni and cheese shaped like bunnies?

5. Rosemary shoestring potatoes

Burgerville has the best rosemary shoestring potatoes as a seasonal item, and I try to get them whenever I can. They're served with an aioli that makes the dish.

4. Fully-loaded baked potato

Baked potatoes with all the works: butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, and bacon... Makes for a great girl's night. They're also very filling, so that's a plus.

3. Waffle cut fries

Waffle cut fries are just better than normal fries. I think it's because there's more surface area to the fry.

2. Hashbrowns

Hashbrowns are a glorious way to start your morning, whether it's the hash brown patties or the loose potato strips. They're so greasy and delicious, especially with some hot sauce.

1. Tater tots

In which Napolean Dynamite asks the most important question. Tater tots are like little hashbrown cubes, but better. They have the perfect amount of crispy outside and soft potato inside. They're also super versatile: you can eat them at any time of day!

These are just my opinions on the different way to eat potatoes. I understand that everyone has their own potato preferences, but to me, these rankings are definitive and nonnegotiable. If I missed any of your favorite potatoes or you disagree with my rankings, feel free to comment below!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
