I have a friend who goes to UGA, and I asked her what she likes best about the environment there.

For anyone thinking about applying to UGA, these advantages will surely help you make up your mind. For a long time, UGA has been my dream school. So I asked a few UGA friends of mine how their experience has been so far!

Various centers for study

"Well there's a variety of study spaces available for students on campus. There are group study rooms and individual spaces. I like to study in the digital media wing at the Miller Learning Center because they have Mac computers available for students to use and it's quiet. The university has an endless amount of resources and spaces for students to work." — Caitlyn K.

I heard from my friend that there are many centers and libraries where students can study without being disturbed. I found this especially useful because it would be a great way to focus and really spend time studying during midterms and finals.

School Spirit

School spirit

"If you walk outside on game day almost everyone is wearing red, black, or white." — Preethi A.

"Students at UGA have a lot of school spirit and take pride in being apart of the Bulldog nation. Our team gets lots of support every game because we are used to winning!" — Shawna D.

Another thing I noticed from my friends' stories about the college was the unity among the students. The UGA bulldogs were especially united and supportive of their football team.

Friendly, supportive staff

"All the staff member's are friendly and inviting. Most try to get to know you and are understanding." — Danielle D.

According to my friend and many of the students attending the college, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The teachers are also the same way — supportive and helpful.

Amazing food quality, taste and availability

UGA food from dining hall

"Everyone can find something to eat at UGA. They have various food options including vegan cupcakes and soy spaghetti for those who have food restrictions or are on a diet." — Preethi A.

One of the most popular opinions of UGA, I heard, is that it has one of the best cafeterias any college can offer. It has a wide variety of food to offer and there were options for everyone (vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian) and according to many, the food was amazingly delicious.

Calm atmosphere

"On the weekends most people go home, but if you don't, you can still enjoy your time on campus. The environment is very peaceful and quiet, except for when there's a football game, of course." — Preethi A.

One of the best things students at UGA like is that the atmosphere is very calm and serene, proving a great place for students to study and concentrate without too many distractions.

Well-equipped gym and courtyards

Courtyard

"I have a friend who plays badminton about four times a week, and she really loves our gym." — Preethi A.

Personally, I haven't visited nor seen a picture of their gym before, but many of my friends who toured the campus told me it was great place to work out with different kinds of machines. Many students take time to relax and enjoy themselves by playing sports on the courtyards around the UGA campus.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
