Best Things To Eat When You Are Home

Don’t get me wrong, I love the food in Ann Arbor, but there are just some things here that don’t compare to food places at home. I can get sushi, ice cream, sandwiches, bagels, and salads here, but it isn’t the same as all of the places growing up. Whether it be Bambou dumplings, Lenny’s bagels and iced coffee, or just a cup of Carvel soft serve, there are a few staple “Westchester, NY” food places I can’t wait to go back to. The following list is the top 5 things I am most looking forward to eating when I am home.

1. Sushi-Bambou

I am definitely most looking forward to sushi from Bambou. Whether it be rock shrimp, veggie dumplings, or just sushi, all of my friends always leave here satisfied. Even better, this is all my friends “go to” restaurant for what we call “family dinners.”

2. Sandwiches- Gville Deli

This one is kind of strange, sandwiches. I get sandwiches here all the time, but there is nothing like walking into Gville, seeing Sal, and having the employees know your order.

3.Bagels-Lenny’s

There is nothing more that I crave on Sunday morning’s at school then a Lenny’s bagel and iced coffee. I have such fond memories of my friends and I going to Lenny’s during free periods during school or running into people on Sunday mornings in the Lenny’s

4. Salad-Kneaded Bread

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love my Kneaded Bread Salads. It is definitely my favorite place to go for lunch. Whether it be a Greek Salad, Chinese Chicken Salad, or a make your own salad, I am always so happy eating here.

5. Ice Cream-Carvel

I am lactose in tolerant. Everyone close to me knows this. Everyone close to me also knows how much I love ice cream. Carvel vanilla soft serve with rainbow sprinkles is forever my favorite type of food. Yes, there is soft serve here but nothing compares to my Carvel.

So, I have just gladly proven that the freshman 15 still very much exists at home. I don’t know about you, but I am so excited to get home, eat all my favorite foods, and see my friends.

We Need More Than Memorials this Memorial Day
Cape Cod Irish

When I was a child, I used to look forward to Memorial Day Weekend from the time I returned to school after Christmas vacation. It was the yearly benchmark announcing the end of the school year and the beginning of summer vacation. It meant I was one step closer to regattas, swim meets and tennis matches.

I remember how exciting summer was when I was a kid. I would just be eagerly waiting for school to end so that I could fly to some exotic location with my family for the summer. Or hang out with my friends every day. Or just lay around in bed or read, paint, draw, basically do whatever.

When we think of events that have transpired in the US over the last few years, a lot of it ends up in spotlighting the division in the country. However, things across the pond seem to be no better - at least when it comes to sports. Last week, Real Madrid - arguably the richest sports franchise in the world, had one of their Brazilian strikers subject to vicious racist attacks in Valencia.
