Getting you through it all, one day at a time

Best Things About February

Though my favorite month of the year is January (Capricorns what's goooood), I also have to realize that there are good qualities about the other months throughout the year. Once they pass, you only have to wait 11 more months to get back in the same month, which is unfortunate when it's the first day of summer and you realize you have to wait a little over 11 months just to get back to the glorious feeling of no more school. Thus, I decided to make a list of the great qualities February has jto get me through this short month.

1) Black History Month

Ironically, the shortest month of the year is also the one that represents one of the most targeted populations in the United States. Throughout the month, Black and African-American communities celebrate our culture, ccreativity, inspirations, traditions, and a whole lot more in many planned events and campaigns, especially shown on social media.

2) The Important Awards Shows

Pretty much anything NOT listing "Choice Awards" in its titles, aka Grammys, BAFTAs, Oscars, Emmys, etc. It's a good month to get 3/4 of the prestigious EGOT awards and to free up your Sunday night, pop some popcorn, and watch 2-4 hours of pure celebrity achievements. It's a yearly tradition for me, and it's always amazing to see the underdogs win an award. (I JUST WANT LIN-MANUEL TO GET HIS EGOT!!!)

3) Valentine's Day (CANDY)

I'm honestly not a huge Valentine's Day fan, and it's not because I have no one to celebrate with (if I do their name is Food, Comfort Food). I do, however, love the idea of huge discount packs of clothes, candy, pillows, trinkets, you name it at various stores. Even going shopping in January, I saw huge assortments of Reece's hearts in Walmart! (feel free to mail this to me :))

4) Spring Break is Coming

Though I do enjoy the winter, I love being in the nice sun enjoying the activities of Spring Term (SPRINGFEST!!). With that, I also get to go home for 10 days to relax, and think of a time where I don't need to do work! And I think that's any college student's dream. Hang in there everyone, February's almost over!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
