It is a Thursday night at your favorite bar at Midtown. However, you just got kicked out for fighting, spilling your drink on the bouncer, etc. Now is the time you realize you have not indulged in a midnight snack in the past three days. Time to reward yourself. Where would you go?
There are plenty of options for a late night meal in Midtown, but your inability to make thoughtful decisions has brought you back to Pizza By the Slice. As a food enthusiast, I can assure you there are plenty of restaurants worth trying for the first time, especially while slightly intoxicated. Below, is a list of places you must try before you graduate.
Flaco’s Tacos. Most students don’t even know Flaco’s exists due to its subtle location right on the corner behind Relish and across from Study Edge. Flaco’s specializes in Cuban-style meals and usually stays open until 2 a.m. The food is excellent if you like burrito bowls, sandwiches or delectable pastries.
Relish. Any student at the University of Florida will tell you about their experience at the best burger joint in town. The burgers are fresh grilled and can include about 1,000 different combinations of toppings. If you are craving an unhealthy cheeseburger, this is the place.
The Spot. A relatively new restaurant that has a very diverse menu. It is located on 18th Street right next to Cheese Daddy. If you enjoy authentic Greek euros and pitas, definitely give this place a visit.
Burrito Bros. Easily the best burrito in town can be found here (sorry, Chipotle). However, its location is a bit strange and includes about a five-minute walk from the bars. It is right off of University Ave., but the entrance faces 1st Street. If you manage to find it, be ready for genuine Mexican cuisine. And for a relatively cheap price, you get about three pounds of food.
Leonardo’s. How can you have drunk munchies and not think about eating pizza? Leonardo’s is home to classic New York style brick-oven pizza. The menu includes a plethora of toppings and pizza styles. Its location is on the corner of 13th Street and University Avenue, so it is a little far from Midtown but, trust me, it is worth the walk.
While there are tons of other places to eat in Gainesville, these are the restaurants you simply cannot go without trying. So indulge this weekend, and worry about going to the gym on Monday.
