Itās Sunday morning. Youāve probably slept in until at least 10:30, and the first thought that comes to mind, besides reflecting on whatever you spent the previous night doing, is the fact that you have a day ahead of you full of the homework that you likely spent the rest of the week putting off.Ā
In order to gather the necessary energy to accomplish all of your homework, or at least put it off a bit longer, I suggest utilizing the concept of brunch. You get to start the day with a friend or two, indulge in an insane amount of carbohydrates, and vent out what you need to in order to be productive for the rest of the day. So, where should you go? Never fear, friends, I have gathered a short list of places relatively near campus that should take care of all of your future brunching needs.
1.Ā Alās ā This is the lazy option that everyone knows about on campus. If youāve ever been, you know itās delicious. Theyāre located right in Dinky, and they serve everything from omelets to pancakes. They also have some vegetarian options, which is nice. The downside to this place is that it can be busy on Sundays, and if it is, youāll be waiting outside. Also, they generally only accept cash. However, if you happen to have some dollars on you, I recommend their garden omelet or the walnut waffle.
2.Ā Black Coffee and Waffle Bar ā This gem is located on 15th and Como, and is worth the short gander in the morning. The menu consists of waffles (go figure) that you can build yourself, or order off the menu as is. They also have delicious French-pressed coffee. Itās a smaller place, but the busy atmosphere and shabby chic atmosphere scream Minneapolis.
3.Ā The Kitty Corner CafĆ© ā This place is great because they serve waffles and panini sandwiches. Theyāre also located on campus. What else could you want, really? Yet another cool thing about this place is that any of their waffles can be made gluten free, and they also have some vegetarian and vegan options.
4.Ā Victorās 1959 CafĆ© ā If youāre looking for a place off-campus that has a funky kind of flare, you should try Victorās. First of all, they make it socially acceptable to partake in a breakfast/brunch happy hour. Second, they have quirky tropical options like mango pancakes, and a delicious Cuban hash. They also have things like rice porridge and breakfast sandwiches if youāre feeling slightly less adventurous.
5.Ā The Uptowner CafĆ© on Grand ā The Uptowner has a great location if youāre up for some shopping after brunch. Itās located on Grand Ave. in St. Paul, right next to a major shopping block. They also encourage your rad art skills by giving you crayons and paper while you wait for your food. Oh yeah, and their veggie scrambler is pretty good, too.
Hopefully Iāve made your mouths water sufficiently enough to persuade you to head out for brunch at the next available opportunity, because trust meĀ it is so, SO worth it. There are tons of other places around the cities, so get out there and try them!Ā
