As we near the end of the semester, final tests and projects take precedence right? As much as we would like to think we are pushing the final weeks of the semester out on a productive note, the truth is many of us are just wishing for summer, and distracting ourselves from reality by binge-watching our favorite series on Netflix. As unproductive as this may be in arguably the most important weeks of the semester, we can at least optimize our Netflix experience by using these easy, but useful, Netflix hacks:
1. Use an VPN software system to get other countries' Netflix movies
Software like Smartflix or the pay-for-play Media Hint trick the site into thinking you are in another country, granting you access to hundreds of new titles. These might be a be a better option than "Hola" the previous VPN changer, considering it has had tons of security risks lately. Unblock at your own risk.
2. Play Netflix Roulette
Do you ever get stuck in the never-ending loop on Netflix flipping through movies, reading descriptions, and then ultimately deciding not to watch anything? A cure for this useless time spent is Netflix Roulette. Put in an actor, a genre, or another determining factor, and who knows what you’ll end up watching. Link
3. Put an end to buffering
While playing a title, hold down Shift+Opt (Shift+Alt for Windows) and left click to open up a "hidden" menu (called the Stream Manager) with buffering fixes and other streaming options.
4. Binge-watch with friends using Rabbit Messaging
The video-chat service Rabbit competes with FaceTime and Skype. Unlike other messaging apps, Rabbit allows you to launch a window that can be viewed by all the parties in the chat inside that window – suddenly binge-watching three seasons doesn't seem so depressing after all.
5. Use the "Netflix Bible" to find more than just surface level Netflix
What's On Netflix provides an encyclopedia of endless sub-genres that would never show up while skimming the surface of the site. They provide ID codes that can be added to the end of a provided Netflix URL, and will send you straight to the your chosen genre.
6. Utilize Netflix socks to prevent spoilers
Netflix socks- which include an embedded pulse sensor that automatically pauses whatever you're watching when it detects you've fallen asleep, so you never miss a moment.
