10 Things Moms ACTUALLY Want On Mother's Day, From An Actual Mom

Sorry, Buzzfeed, but no mom actually wants a Squatty Potty.

10 Things Moms ACTUALLY Want On Mother's Day, From An Actual Mom
@rachaelleephoto

All week I have been seeing various articles giving advice on what to get your mom for her special day. But, every time I start to scroll through them it takes me about 10 seconds to realize that article was NOT written by an actual mom. There is simply no way! We don't need another necklace that says "Mom" on it, we don't want more coupons for free hugs, and we really, really, don't want a Squatty-Potty (yes, that was an actual suggestion).

So, with that being said, here are 10 things to do for your mom on Mother's Day

1. Let her sleep in

Sleep as a mom is pretty much non-existent. Therefore, there is nothing better than having someone else do the 6 a.m. breakfast routine with the kids. So, dad/significant others, go get the kids up, feed them, clean up the mess, and let her get her beauty sleep.

2. Serve her breakfast in bed

This goes along with number one. While you've got the kids eating breakfast, whip-up some breakfast for that amazing woman catching those zzz's. After you're done, let the kids help put it on a platter and bring it to her. Not much of a cook, that's cool. Take the kids with you to go get her favorite breakfast and coffee from wherever. Trust me, she will still be super thankful. P.S. Don't leave a mess in the kitchen when you're finished.

3. Clean the house

I don't mean some half-done job where she will have to go back and finish later, I mean clean it like it's your job...because it is, you live there too.

4. Send her on a mini spa day

I don't mean you have to spend $$$ on a 5-star spa, a nice mani/pedi will do just fine. Give her some time to get pampered and simply relax.

5. Plan a date-night

Yes, we all love our kids. They are the reason we get to celebrate this special day, but everyone needs a break sometimes. So, get a sitter and get dressed up.

6. Turn your kitchen into a restaurant

No sitter, no problem. Play chef for the night and do your date-night dinner in your dining room. She will still be stoked to have a good meal that she didn't have to make herself.

7. Make her something

Keep in mind that the gift you make should be age appropriate. For example, a paper heart from my 3-year-old is precious, but if he was 23...might be a little bit of a letdown. There are a ton of examples on Pinterest and YouTube, most of which are budget-friendly. So, get crafty.

8. Give her a gift card to her favorite store

Though gift cards get a bad reputation, when done right they are awesome. As a mom, we rarely get time to shop for ourselves. When we do get this opportunity, a lot of times we end up chasing kids around a department store. So, after you've done a few things on this list, giver her a gift card and let her go on a mini shopping spree.

9. But together a photo album

This is soo easy, and it is something she will be able to cherish forever. Simply take a few of your favorite pics of y'all together and put them in a nice album. It's something she can show off to her friends, and look back on for years to come.

10. Take time to tell her how much she means to you

I know this seems like a given, but we are all guilty when it comes to taking our moms for granted. Whether you write down the 10 things you love most about her, or just simply pull her aside, this will make her day.

So, feel free to take these ideas and make them your own. After all, you know her best. Also, don't worry...you can totally pretend you came up with it all on your own. I won't tell.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
