Last week I focused on the first half of Hillsong Worship's "Open Heaven" album and this week I will be talking about the last eight songs. This album is truly one of my favorites, and there are so many important lyrics in each song. I will be picking my favorite part of each song and discussing the power of those words. If you did not get to read last week's and you would like to, here is the link!
1. "Here Now"
"Eternity residing in my soul"
This one line has so much mass. Our brains do not process the idea of forever very easily -- especially when it includes us. To think that our souls will have a forever with Jesus is the most extraordinary thing. The day that my body dies is not the end, but instead, it is a sweet start into eternity.
2. "In God We Trust"
"He’s already won
I know God will not be shaken"
He is our sturdy rock. We know that we can put all of our trust in Him because He never changes. We can stand triumphant because our God is victorious.
3. "Faithfulness"
"When battle’s near I will not fear
Your promises are unshaken"
He doesn't differ from the words He has already given us. He is committed to us; He remains faithful. Everything He says is true. If that is the case, what is there to fear? We are equipped with bravery when we rest in His presence.
4. "Never Forsaken"
"I am never forsaken"
I am never forsaken. I am never forgotten. Nothing I do or say goes unnoticed by God. He knows my deepest thoughts, the concerns of my heart and everything that I have done. He will never walk away from me. He will not leave me or abandon me, but instead, He waits patiently for me to come to Him.
5. "Here Now (Madness)"
No. I'm sorry, there is no way that I would ever be able to pick a few lines from this song because the whole thing is incredible. Here is the link to the lyric video. Just listen.
6. "Rule"
"Let your name rule the atmosphere"
"Jesus." What a name.
7. "This Is Living"
"See the sun now bursting through the clouds
Black and white turns to color all around
All is new, in the Savior I am found
This is living now"
The clouds and the black and white represent the life before the one you lived for Jesus. He is the sun and the color. He is the warmth and the extravagance. The life that we now live -- the one that is new -- is the life worth living. We are found in such a bright and extravagant love story. We are found in the Savior. It's so much more fun to go through life with the one who gave yours to you.
8. "Pursue/ All I Need Is You"
"You've won my heart
Jesus, you're all that I want"
Those are probably some of the most incredible words for Jesus to hear. Imagine what joy He feels when He finally hears that from His child, whom He has been pursuing for His whole life. Notice how I said "His whole life" and not "our whole lives" because Jesus was pursuing a future relationship with us before we were brought into existence. He was thinking of you and me the day He died, the day He rose again, and every day since then. This little part of the song is a declaration that our hearts are being consumed by Jesus. We are finally participating in the greatest love that there is and that is all that we want.
And there are the final eight! I really think that you guys should pick up this album and dive into it. It's a great experience and has brought me many freaking awesome moments of worship and praise. Overall, I just hope that this post was a small reminder to you of how faithful and beautiful our God is.
