There is nothing better to do on a fall night than curling up in a blanket with some popcorn and a pumpkin spiced latte and watching a Halloween movie. Before we know it, the spookiest month of the year will be here, along with the most fun holiday of them all -- Halloween.
There are a ton of great Halloween movies to watch to put you in the Halloween mood
while making your Halloween costume, or trying to avoid studying. Here is my list of the top Halloween movies.
1. Hocus Pocus. Witches, zombies, talking cats and Sarah Jessica Parker. This movie is the pinnacle of Halloween movies. It brings me back to my childhood. I mean, who doesn’t remember the Sanderson sisters?
2. Halloweentown. This Disney Channel original movie is a classic. Who wouldn't want to live in a town where it is Halloween 365 days a year? I remember being a kid and wishing that I could be like Marnie, because I thought it would be so cool to be a witch. It would be a lot more convenient to fly to class on my broom, than to drive.
3. Nightmare On Elm Street. This '80s horror film may be morescary than any horror movie that has came out in the past five years. You would think that dreaming in your sleep would be something peaceful, but leave it up to Freddy Krueger to make you never want to dream again. Take it from someone who saw this movie as a child and could not sleep for a week, this movie will make you wish you will never dream again. A fun fact about the film -- you can see an early Johnny Depp get killed by the legendary Freddy Krueger.
4. The Nightmare Before Christmas. This Tim Burton classic has a combination of Christmas and Halloween. With the creative mind of Tim Burton, lovable characters and catchy songs, this movie has the perfect balance of spooky elements and fun to make this movie perfect for the Halloween season. I am not the biggest fan of musicals, but for some reason I like the songs and even hum them in my head days after watching the movie. According to Buzzfeed, one minute of the movie required a week of filming, and the movie took more than three years to be completed.
5. Halloween. With the title of the movie being Halloween, you bet it is on my list. Even though this movie was made in 1978, it still has all the suspense and horror of a current horror movie. What is scarier than a convicted murderer who has just escaped from a psychiatric hospital?
6. It’s The Great Charlie Brown. This is probably my favorite Halloween movie. Even though scary movies are festive around this time of year, we always started celebrating Halloween by trick or treating in our costumes and watching this Peanuts special. This movie is an all-time classic and is played on TV every year, around October.
