As a college kid living on dining hall foods, I'm used to being unsatisfied with my meal selections. Sometimes however, it becomes imperative to branch out and try new places to avoid the monotony of buffet style food. Going to college in small town like Meadville PA, I was concerned that there would not be many options for going out to eat, but after trying out several quality places I've compiled a list of the best eateries in Meadville (in my opinion of course).
1. Eddie's Footlong Hotdogs
This summer staple is an outdoor stand that has one food item in mind: footlong weenies. This place has been around since 1947 and it is no question that it brings a nostalgic feel along with simple yet delicious foods. Try their special sauce on your hotdog, and enjoy sitting outside. Don't fret if the weather gets too chilly, they have opened another location in the Meadville mall so it can be enjoyed all year long.
2. Julian's Bar and Grill
If you are looking to add a little oomph to your burger, give this place a try. with over twelve different burger options, from the Buffalo Burger to the Mexican style burger, you are sure to find one that fits your appetite. This place also offers more upscale menu items, coupled with a quaint atmosphere it will be sure to please your tastebuds.
3. The Market House Grill
My favorite breakfast place in town, located in the historic Meadville Market House, this small diner is always packed with people. My favorite menu items include their breakfast scramble or their selection of huge pancakes. The old fashioned atmosphere, and hearty portions make me love stopping here for a home cooked breakfast.
4. Mickey's Central Fire Station Restaurant
With a new owner and menu this place has stepped up their game from basic bar food, to excellent southern BBQ made in house. The pulled pork and beef brisket sandwiches are huge, and you can select what kind of house BBQ to add to them. Not to mention they make all of their own sides fresh with southern style cornbread, and potato salad as my personal favorites. The added charm of its location in an old fire station is a fun factor as well.
5. Timbercreek Tap and Table
If you are looking for more upscale dining, Timbercreek is a go to. This tap and table has rustic interior but still manages to feel upscale. The food from pulled pork sandwiches to a variety of steak cuts is extremely mouthwatering, and the outdoor fire pit and seating is an added bonus.
6. Montana's Rib and Chop House
Another restaurant on the more upscale end is this chop house. If you are looking for a hearty steak, or my personal favorite cedar plank salmon try this place. I'd suggest going on a special occasion because it is on the pricier side, but it is worth it for a good steak or salmon once in awhile. In other words, treat yo self.
