Not only has Disney become one of the largest animation tycoons in the history of the world, it has been a staple of many a childhood. Many of us can remember days and nights where we would snuggle up on the couch with our favorite Disney movie. Classics such as The Lion King, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast have kept us captivated for years.
Likewise, we have experienced the wonders the combination of Disney and Pixar can bring to the big screen with the movies such as Toy Story and Inside Out. However, though there are a lot of wonderful Disney movies and Disney Pixar movies which ones are the best? Specifically, which Disney’s Pixar movies or are considered top-of-the-line when it comes to animation, story, and character? I have narrowed it down to a top five so let's dive right in!
1. "Inside Out"
Everyone has emotions inside their heads and when it comes to a girl named Riley, these emotions can be unbalanced when thrust into a new situation. When forced to move and adjust to a new setting, Riley's emotions have different ideas on how to keep Riley operating properly which can lead to stress and disagreements.
This movie is absolutely wonderful. The bright colors and creative designs really pop with this film. This movie explores mental concepts, emotions, and situations that all people, no matter their age, face in a way that is original yet amazingly creative. The characters are extremely likable and the voice-acting is absolutely amazing.
This movie makes you really think about different situations when it comes to yourself and your own emotions. I won't spoil the ending, but it is a wonderful and mature lesson for anyone to learn, but the movie does it in such a smart way. This is probably my favorite movie on this list and definitely deserves a top-five spot.
2. "Toy Story"
Woody, a cowboy doll, has always enjoyed being the favorite among Andy's toys. However, on Andy's birthday, Woody finds a rival for Andy's affections with the arrival of Buzz Lightyear, a space action-figure. Woody's desire to be Andy's favorite toy and Buzz's own confusion on how the life of a toy is supposed to operate cause them to clash and get into sticky situations that require teamwork to get out.
This movie is a Disney classic; I know I have watched it over and over as I have grown up. Though the animation is now considered dated, this movie is still brilliant in its use of the plastic textures computer animation has to offer which created the perfect "toy-like" look for its characters.
Once again, the voice-acting in this movie was incredible with two amazing leads. The characters have believable motivations and desires throughout the story which progresses nicely with some funny and even creepy moments. This movie is one of my childhood favorites and it will always have a friend in me.
3. "Finding Nemo"
Marlin, a clown fish, sets off on a journey across the ocean when his son Nemo is taken by divers. With a blue tang fish named Dory, who has short-term memory loss, Marlin travels the oceans, facing a club with sharks, jellyfish, and hooking a ride with turtles. it's a race to find Nemo before the small clownfish is given to a dentist's young relative in Australia.
Who could forget this other childhood classic? This movie was another favorite of mine when I was a little kid and now that I am older I find myself enjoying it more and more. The characters, especially, Dory have become iconic as well as a few lines such as "Just keep Swimming" and many more.
The story was extremely touching and heartfelt while keeping a humorous tone. One thing that I really appreciated about this movie was how they presented the world they created; the writers and animators constantly remind the audience that this is a vast ocean setting with a story and an atmosphere that seemed just as large. This movie is a classic for me and is definitely deserving of a spot on this list.
4. "Coco"
Finding himself cursed from stealing the guitar of his recently discovered great-great-grandfather, Miguel discovers he has been transported into the Land of the Dead. Facing his family members and their ban on all things music, Miguel must find his great-great-grandfather in order to get his musical blessing and to find a way back to the living world before it is too late.
I have sung this movie's praises over and over again; though it is a new movie, it is definitely deserving of any and all love or support. This movie has to be close to Inside Out for my favorite Disney Pixar movie. It has a good heart and wonderful characters. One thing that really appealed to me about this movie was how absolutely gorgeous it was; shots of the Land of the Dead never failed to take my breath away.
The story was wonderful too with beautiful and fun songs sprinkled throughout its plot. I can honestly say that this movie made me laugh, gasp in amazement, and cry all within a two-hour span. You will not go wrong with this wonderfully creative and gorgeous film.
5. "Up"
Upon retirement, balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen decides to fulfill his and his wife's lifelong dream of a great adventure. He ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies off to South America, but quickly discovers his adventure may not go as planned when he has to deal with a Wilderness Explorer named Russell, an exotic bird, and a talking dog.
I knew from this beginning this movie was going to be on the list. For me, this film is a wonderful animated comedy with wonderful animation and creativity to spare. From the first ten minutes of the film (which is all done without speaking by the way), you will fall in love with these characters while laughing and crying with them.
The story is very heart-warming and is very good at dealing with the subjects of loss and acceptance in creative, yet still mature ways. This movie made me laugh, smile, and cry; it is definitely worth the watch.
