The 3 Best Concerts I Have Ever Attended

Sadly, Adele and Bruno Mars don't make the cut.

I have always found my obsession with live music to be a very weird aspect of myself: I am quiet and socially reserved, yet being at the front of a giant pit of screaming concertgoers or jumping and dancing on the dance floor of an intimate music venue are two pastimes that I have embraced for years.

Over the majority of my time as a young adult, I have attended my fair share of concerts. I've seen Adele, Paramore, Kendrick Lamar, Fall Out Boy, and even Bruno Mars. But those shows don't even come close to some of my all-time favorite concerts I have ever attended. The following three shows, however, are what I consider near-perfect concert experiences, and rank among the best live shows I have had the chance to experience.

1. The Death of a Bachelor 2017 Tour (Panic! At the Disco with Misterwives and Saint Motel).

I have been a fan of Panic! At the Disco since the summer of 2013, hearing the promotional singles for the band's fourth (and my personal favorite) album "Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die." Being second row for their show at the WaMu Theatre in Seattle was unforgettable. Even with the frontman Brendon Urie being severely sick and unable to speak, his vocal delivery (and the band's performance) was top notch. The backing horn section (or as Urie calls them, his "horny boys") elevated the execution of the tour's title track among the other cuts from the setlist that drew from Panic!'s Sinatra-and-Queen-inspired project.

And to make the night even better, both Saint Motel and Misterwives gave incredibly energetic performances to hype up the crowd (particularly Misterwives, who surprised me by playing "Drummer Boy," a previously unreleased track off their sophomore album that is the catchiest thing I have ever heard in my life).

2. Play Dead Live (Mutemath with Colony House).

A two-hour journey through the entirety of their discography, Mutemath blew me away with not only how well balanced and executed their setlist was, but how fantastically the show came together, as their original drummer of 15 years, Darren King, left right before touring was supposed to begin. David "Hutch" Hutchison delivered a powerful, rhythmic performance on the drums, and gives me hope that Mutemath will continue to give their fans high-energy live shows! The band also played some of my all-time favorite tracks of theirs (including newly released jams "Break the Fever" and "Achilles Heel").

While I missed the first opening act, ROMES, Colony House was a very pleasant surprise. I loved just about every song they played despite not being familiar with their material. The night, from start to finish, was full of exceptional musicianship, some of the best I have heard in a live setting.

3. The Emotional Roadshow 2017 World Tour (twenty one pilots with Jon Bellion and Judah and the Lion).

I might have to just come out and say that this show might be my favorite I have ever attended. While the previous two were in Seattle (what I personally feel is my home), there was something about being in the heart of Las Vegas that added an extra level of excitement and energy. I have seen the pop-rock duo multiple times, but this might be my favorite. They performed a solid variety of tracks from both of their major label LP's (including my all-time favorite of theirs, "Ode to Sleep"), Tyler Joseph (the lead singer) played Mario Kart on their big video backdrop with a fan from the crowd, and during the encore, I personally had a very deep and hard-hitting moment with God.

This show embodies everything I want out of a live concert from an artist I enjoy: A well-balanced setlist, fun crowd engagement, and space for emotional and spiritual impact. (I could also write another couple paragraphs about how wonderful both openers were, with Judah performing a cover of The Killers' "Mr. Brightside" and Jon Bellion closing his set with my favorite song of his, "New York Soul, Part ii.")

I intend to continue to sing and dance to live music for as long as I live (though I plan to sincerely cut back on how many shows I go to, in order to preserve my money and my hearing abilities). While I'm not too sure if I will attend a concert that tops any of these anytime soon, I like to give that challenge to performers within the music industry. These tickets ain't cheap: you better be wowing from the moment your foot touches the stage.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
