Black Mirror is one of those shows pretty scarily accurate shows that really portrays where we are as a society, and what direction we are going towards. It might give some very extremist views on our relationship with technology, how we can use technology, and what humanity is capable that viewers might not actually see within themselves, but when you peel back on the show and really look into its core, you can actually see that the apple really does not fall too far from the tree.
In my opinion, there are some very good and insightful episodes of Black Mirror, and there are some that just aren't (not unlike anything else in life). Some of these episodes have actually had me have an identity crisis at 3am, wondering if I myself am capable of these things, are the people around me participating in these things, is this what modern society actually looks like? Honestly, yeah, it kinda does, which is actually pretty...terrifying. Although it might be uncomfortable to think of society as enslaved to technology and almost inhumane in a modern sense, it is important to look at it. Looking at it in the extremist way of technological determinism that Black Mirror examines at its core gives us this crisis of "wow, is this what I'm capable of?" and it is the backbone for the change that the show tries to emphasize is necessary in order for us to truly stay human and have the capacity to be ourselves without the use of technology and media.
Episodes of Black Mirror don't have to be watched in any particular order, and although I am someone who has watched all of the episodes of the show (because, after a while, it does get addicting) I have never watched a season cover to cover. One thing that Netflix does that I think actually really adds to the show is that they don't give very great descriptions of each episode. In my opinion, they make each episode sound like it's pointless. When I first read through each episode's description, I honestly had zero desire to watch the show. It's only because my friends literally forced me to put aside my ego and watch it that I actually did, and loved it. Here are some episodes that, in my opinion, really speak to what I hope humanity never becomes, but what it might in some ways already be. These episodes were the ones that really made me think, and I hope they can do the same for you.
