February 1 marks what is arguably the best month of the year. February encases Groundhog Day, President Lincoln's Birthday, Valentine's Day and President's Day. Although all of those days are great, February is also the host of Black History Month. Black History Month is a time that I hold close to my heart. Black History Month is about celebrating what African American's have contributed to the United States, what they hope to accomplish in the future and the soulful roots and culture of Blacks in the United States.
In addition to Black History Month, I also hold my hometown, San Francisco, very close to my heart. San Francisco is an iconic city that has some major soul. It's dripping in it. San Francisco is the home to one of the best, live Jazz music scenes in the United States. In addition to the Jazz scene, San Francisco has some of the greatest soul food restaurants. Surprising, I know, but San Francisco isn't just good for its burritos. Celebrate Black History Month right and check out these fantastic soul food restaurants.
Brenda's French Soul Food.
Located in the Tenderloin in San Francisco, this is a go to spot for a shrimp po' boy and warm, flaky beignets. Known for their fantastic weekend brunches, the wait on those days can be a bit frustrating. That wait will be worth is as soon as you spear a piece of flavor-packed Andouille sausage onto your fork and into your mouth.

farmerbrown.
I first stumbled upon farmerbrown after a fifth grade graduation ceremony and have been infatuated ever since. Also located in the Tenderloin of San Francisco, farmerbowrn is an incredible place to listen to thoughtfully picked Jazz music, devour a bowl of Shrimp Jambalaya, and have a slice of rich Pecan Pie topped with vanilla bean ice cream. The Southern inspired atmosphere makes you feel right at home. And you'll definitely be taking some food in a to go box once you leave.

Queen's Louisiana Po-Boy Cafe.
This hidden gem is located on San Bruno Avenue in the Portola district of San Francisco. As you walk into the small and colorful cafe, you will be warmly embraced by the smells of fresh cooked fried chicken and seafood gumbo. If you do decide to come to this cozy restaurant be sure to order the Chicken Tender Po' Boy with a side of Chicken Tenders because you'll definitely be craving more. And for dessert, don't hesitate to order three fresh Beignets that'll top off the perfect meal
