Ben & Jerry’s Newest Ice Cream—Resist— Is Inspiring Change

On October 30, the ice cream company Ben & Jerry's released a new flavor titled "Resist." This new ice cream consists of chocolate ice cream with white and dark fudge, pecans, walnuts, and fudge covered almonds. Not only does this sound DELICIOUS, but there's more to this ice cream than its amazing ingredients.

"Resist" is inspired by equality for all people, races, sexualities, and genders. To be specific, this ice cream flavor is resisting the Trump administration and all the groups of individuals he and his administration have rejected. Said groups include the LGBTQ community, people of color, native environments, and immigrants. The company has chosen four organizations to partner with that support and represent these groups of people.

The first organization is Color of Change, an organization that acknowledges the injustice among people of color and fights for them. The second organization is Honor the Earth, which works to protect the native environments, and raise money in order to make sure these environments do not disappear. The third is Neta, an independent media platform that uses their influence to let the voices of the Texas-Mexico border be heard. The fourth and final partner is the Women's March, a women-led march that fights for the political power of women and social change.

All of these organizations have a powerful cause that should be shared, and what a better way to do that then through ice cream!

The website for Ben & Jerry's has a page describing the new flavor and its message. Each organization has a brief description and a link to their individual websites. The company even included a video promoting their newest flavor, encouraging others to "join the resistance." This is such an amazing opportunity for these organizations' messages to be heard.

This may seem like just another ice cream flavor, but "Resist" is doing more than just fulfilling a sweet tooth craving. It's supporting organizations that the president has neglected and frowned upon. He tried to take away the voices of these marginalized groups, but this project is giving it back to them AND helping millions of people hear what they have to say. It is so important to bring awareness to these organizations that stand up for the people who have been oppressed, and I applaud Ben & Jerry's for using their influence--and delicious ice cream--for helping these organizations in the good fight!

Ben & Jerry's has created ice cream flavors in the past in support of other important causes, but this one definitely reigns supreme. This project is working with not one but FOUR organizations in supporting their values and encouraging change. All of these organizations have such an amazing message that other people should hear. People need to know about the four major issues within our country: racial injustice, women's rights, our native environments, and the lost stories of the Texas-Mexico border. These voices need to be heard, and "Resist" can be an amazing outlet to reach audiences all over the world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
