Bigfoot. Who is this mythical creature you may ask? Or you may say, "Bigfoot? Not real."
I say, "Bigfoot? I believe."
When people see the Bigfoot stickers on my laptop, the air freshener in my car, or the statue that sits in my room, they tend to laugh. They usually chuckle and say something like, “those are so cute” or “do you really believe in Bigfoot.” I always say “Why thank you, and yes I do believe.”
Why do I believe? I believe because everyone needs that fun mythical thing that they believe in to keep them sane.
Now, do I really believe that there is a giant human-like thing walking around in a field somewhere? Maybe. I choose to believe not because I have some sort of true conviction that it is a real creature out there playing the ultimate game of hide and seek but because it keeps my childlike sense of wonder alive. When you are a child, believing in magic and mythical creatures is second nature. However, as you grow older the wonder and excitement of the unknown dissipate. Why do we have to leave this wonder behind when we grow older?
The answer is, we don’t!
Everyone should believe in something kind of crazy or magical. The reality of life is hard to handle, so it is fun and necessary to escape into thoughts of wonder, at times.
Have that one thing that intrigues you and that other people may not even care about. For me, believing in Bigfoot is fun, not only because it keeps my imagination soaring, but because it adds to my own personal flair. People know me as that girl who loves Bigfoot. I enjoy telling other people that I am a Bigfoot believer because when I talk about it I can see the same wonder that I have appear like a spark in their eyes.
Have fun, believe in something, and don’t let others put you down for keeping the wonder alive. Just because you believe in something a little crazy, it doesn’t mean that you are!
