This I BelieveĀ

For my high school ethics class we were assigned to write a ā€œThis I believeā€ statement. Eager and excited, I fell in love with this opportunity to write and proclaim what I truly believed in. Being new to Odyssey, I was not exactly sure what to write about first. Once I got to brainstorming, I thought my first writing should be one that shares a glimpse of who I am and what I believe. So here they are, the values and ideas through which I strive to live. I encourage and challenge you to make a "This I believe" statement of your own. Try really think about what is important to you, what you value, and what you believe in.Ā

I believe in laughter, the kind that makes you roll on the floor until you canā€™t breathe. I believe in a smile, you never know who could use one. I believe in the simple things in life, the things we take for granted everyday. I believe in dancing, even when there is no music. I believe in eating whatever you want whenever you want. But I also believe in fitness, that exercise is not a punishment for what you ate, but rather a celebration of what your body can do. I believe in the power of positive thinking. I believe in love, the kind that is rare, pure, and undeniable. I believe in God, that faith is extraordinary. I believe in exploring, in seeing the world and discovering new things. I believe in a good cup of coffee. I believe family and friends are lifeā€™s greatest blessings. I believe happiness springs from those around us, not the worldly possessions we desire. I believe in giving back, never forget where you came from and give to those who gave to you. I believe in hard work, in pushing yourself everyday both mentally and physically. I believe in treating yourself, you deserve it. I believe in the wisdom of parents, they know you better than you know yourself. I believe in taking your time, enjoy every moment and savor the good times. I believe in doing what you want, not what others want for you. But I also believe in absorbing support from others. I believe in both the dreamers and the doers. Dream big and do good. I believe the present should be cherished. I believe in having genuine fun. I believe in forgiveness and second chances. I believe in being kind to one another. I believe in staying true to yourself, embrace and love who you are. I believe it is ok to be flawed, to learn to love your flaws and to strive for self improvement. I believe in being honest with yourself. I believe when times get hard, rely on those you love. I believe in lending a helping hand and a shoulder to cry on. I believe we all have a purpose we must pursue, no matter how big or small. I believe in others. I believe in myself. This I believe.Ā

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
