Being Single, As Told By "She's the Man"

As a college student about to end my sophomore year, it is safe to say I have seen it all when it comes to hook ups, break ups, relationships, and just awkward college romantic/platonic chemistry. There's very few people in college, high school even, who know what they want out of a partner or a relationship, and who can blame them since it's such a busy time in life. I, a single gal, have seen people act like both 1's and 10's when it comes to emotions. I have also partaken in both some cringey and successful flirting. But there's only one film that can truly describe what it's like to be single at this age.

Here's what I have learned while being single in high school and college, according to "She's the Man":

1. Looking in the mirror to remind yourself that you are extremely datable and anyone would be lucky to have you:

2. Your friends make fun of you when your crush walks by, and you're all like:

3. But then you're all like:

4. Trying to act casual in any conversation with a crush:

5. But actually failing:

6. When your friends don't play it cool for you:

7. When you see your crush in the dining hall:

8. When someone asks you what you're gonna do about your crush:

9. When feelings pop up out of nowhere:

10. And then of course there are the unemotional-emotional feelings:

11. After talking to your crush in-person for thirty seconds:

12. When things aren't going well and you flag down a friend to save you:

13. Reflecting on your so-called "game" to your roommates:

14. But deep down, you know that you could can rock both the single life and a relationship:

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
