When I was in second grade, we had a career day for "Red Ribbon Week." All of my friends were talking about what they were going to dress up as: a Nurse, a Vet, a Teacher, a Cop... I knew exactly what I wanted to dress up as.
Later that day, my mom met me in the car as I got off the bus. I was excited (as always) to tell her about my day. My daily recap was mostly always filled with stories of recess, getting in the prize box, what we ate for lunch, and secrets my friends told me. Today, I added something different.
"Mom, when I grow up, I know what I want to be!" I could tell my mom was excited to hear what "dream job" my imagination spun up. I looked over at the driver's seat where my mom sat as we pulled into the driveway. I finished this statement without hesitation. "I want to be a mommy just like you!" I could tell this took my mom by surprise. Every little girl wanted to be a mommy when they grew up right? Every little girl played with baby dolls and strollers and baby carriers right?
Seven years later, I met my future husband as I walked into my freshman year at a new and much bigger school. Five years later, we started dating and God fast-tracked our lives for us. Not even a year after we began dating, we got engaged! Eleven months later we were engaged, and what seemed like the longest year later, we found out we were pregnant! When we got engaged, we knew we both wanted kids.
After 11 months of negatives, on our one year anniversary, I got to give my husband the biggest "positive" present he could have received. We found out we were going to have our miracle baby the following summer. Nine months later (3 days before his birthday) our bundle of joy entered this world. I finally got the job title I always wanted. The job consists of working 24/7, no vacation, no days off, you cannot quit, you must know basic nursing, chef, maid, skills.
Salary: $0.00 + ALL THE HUGS, KISSES, AND LOVE YOU WANT.
