Now I know that you're thinking, "Why would I want to major in something like that?"
Well why wouldn't you major in something like this?
Sure, the subject of history can be dry at times. Something about re-learning the date of when the Puritans arrived every 4 years isn't very appealing. Fear not young Freshman in college or high schooler! The subject of history is vast and mysterious. Believe it or not, history doesn't just contain why Nixon caused Watergate to happen! I know, it's amazing! You can actually learn about other things! How does the 100 Years War sound, or maybe the War of Austrian Succession? Oh my lord, Jesus take the wheel!
Yes young child, you can learn all of this and more! Have you ever wanted to learn about East Asian dynasty's? BAM. You should be a history major. Have an interest in the Protestant Reformation in England? Well you better push everything aside that isn't related to being a history major. Do you want to study the effects of Communism on the general US population? That's kinda boring but hey, you do you. All this and more can be yours if you choose the path of righteousness.
The best thing about this major is that you aren't limited to one particular field, well, unless you want to pursue a doctorate; however, you're like 18, calm down. The 6 continents that actually have live people on them (sorry Antartica) are all available at your disposal! Yes sir, for once in your life you can actually study something that isn't American history! How great is that!
You know, I was once like you, bored of the fact that I had to learn about the 13 colonies again and again. I was 17 and just done. I needed something more interesting, something filled with excitement and adventure! Something that would give me the reason to say, "Hey world! My name is Nat and I love my job!" So that's when I tried computer science. It didn't work. My love has always the wonderful subject of history, and it only took a semester of pure agony to figure it out!
History isn't for all of you. If you absolutely hate reading, then you're going to have to sit this one out for the team. Let the star shine, you feel? Sorry there pal, but maybe if you keep practicing you'll get better (but in reality life is one big lie). If you do love the writings of scholars of a time before ours, or just like the overall feeling that people have honestly made bigger mistakes than you (WW2), then welcome aboard!
So what are you waiting for! This isn't a Carnival Cruse. Get on the boat or don't, we're not waiting all day because you can't make quick decisions. Remember, when making your major declaration at the end of fall semester, be sure to put the wonderful subject of history down.
