There are two topics that I never get tired of talking about -- religion and science. Often times people live in a world where the two topics are restricted from ever being connected or even associated with each other. However, I have the tendency to be open to the new discoveries of science, even relativity with how the world was created. The catch is that I would look into how things work scientifically, but when it comes to those laws of science being applied, science would work through God.
So could a Christian be open to scientific teachings like evolution or even the Big Bang Theory? The answer is certainly, as I do believe that while there are several scientific theories that have proven how the earth was created. It reminds me of an old comparison of religion and science working together, where the world is a complicated concept, like a watch and of course a watchmaker needs to create the watch such as the universe has to be created by some type of higher being through a certain action. Honestly just because someone doesn't believe in a higher being, doesn't mean that their perspective of how the universe is formed is invalid. In fact, looking into science through a secular view can help anyone who is religious to understand and interpret how Scriptures could take in what has been scientifically proven. I do believe that religious people shouldn't call out secular people as ignorant for not accepting bible passages as do secular people bantering to religious people as uneducated and criticize by saying the phrase "prayers don't do anything."
Generally some people don't think that religious people are capable of ever creating scientific concepts, but in fact, most of what science is now are thanks to people who lived religious lives! In my perspective as a Christian that has an interest in all things science related, I see scientifically discovers as God's way of helping people learn about the universe He has created for us to help us survive. This can be from understanding the importance of medicine to heal the sick, whereas plenty of hospitals in the world are associated with a Christian affiliate. Even in a teaching perspective, plenty of scientists of the early days of modern science has also dedicated their lives to God. When it comes to prayer, it is, in fact, effective in a Christian perspective, as God would call upon special people to help provide those in need, especially in a health perspective.
The big question is, can you be a Christian and love science? And I do say that the answer is yes. What makes that answer possible is that depending on how you are of your faith, being open to learning about science through the secular perspective can help not only understand these challenges you face as a Christian but to also link those secular points with what can be shown in scriptures.
