If you care at all about what you look like, then you probably spend a fair amount of your time planning outfits and assembling “the look." The art of getting dressed far surpasses clothing your nude self. Rather, the clothes we put on our backs truly are a representation of our individuality and personal style. Appearances are essentially half the battle (possibly even more) when it comes to making first impressions. However, for whatever reason it may be: [suffering from a limited wardrobe, stuck in a rut with too many old clothes, or testing new trends out of boredom], fashioning yourself can be difficult without adequate guidance and the proper resources.
Socks with heels.
WAY more comfortable, and unexpectedly adds a sweet, feminine touch to the outfit. Anyways, who hates cozy feet?
Layering eclectic pieces.
Just because you buy a romper, doesn't mean you can only wear it as a onesie every single time. Don't be afraid to throw on a crop top or vest over. You just made your look 10 times more exciting, but you also increased the use of your romper for more outfit choices.
Throw on a scarf.
Especially on those days where you have barely any clean laundry and nothing seems to look cute enough, pull out a scarf that best compliments your outfit. Just like that, you can magically tie scattered pieces together in a way that makes sense aesthetically. This is also a great way to tone down an overly formal look. I love a good scarf in this limbo spring season since it keeps me toasty enough in the morning before the weather warms up.
Diversify shoe choice.
As much as we love our go-to shoe that we've dedicated so much time to breaking in, it's fun to switch it up. A complete outfit isn't just the clothes. It's a head to toe ordeal, so don't forget about your feet! Try out combat boots with a dress, boat shoes with a skirt, or moccasins with palazzo pants.
Mix textures and patterns.
A common misconception for the inexperienced is that, in order to achieve a fashionable look, every piece of clothing must match perfectly. But that's just too easy, and yawn-inducing. Impeccable fashion means you gotta work for it and make other people work for it. While it does make sense to follow a cohesive theme, the latest trends encourage experimenting with clashing patterns paired with varied textures. Multilayered looks are pleasing to the eye and attract the attention of onlookers who will spend a bit more time studying your style choices – and that's a good thing.
Luckily, it doesn't take much to be a fashionista, or at least fool other people into thinking you're a fashionista. Delete that famous doubtful statement of “I don't think I can pull that off" from your mind, and learn to take a little risk! With confidence, you'll be strutting your stuff and Instagramming your next #OOTD. Fashion that is interesting and worthwhile is meant to be unique to the individual who makes dressing part of their identity. You can be dark and edgy one day, then carefree and bohemian the next! :)
