You were my first love. You kissed me goodnight and tucked me in. Held me on your shoulders so high and I remember feeling like I could touch the clouds. When I had a boo-boo, you'd kiss it, wipe away my tears and send me on my way. Throughout my life, you continuously guide me, mold me, and love me like I could never do anything wrong.
It is because of you dad, the reason I am who I am today.
First and foremost, I love you and I adore you, Dad.
When I was younger I couldn't wait for you to come home from work. Mom would feed the kiddos and then we would wait anxiously for you to walk through the door to run and hug... your leg because we were so short. You always smelled like grease and sweat. I could tell you worked hard for us (you still do). We would go into the backyard some days and have funny conversations, laugh until our tummies hurt, and play in the pool and make tidal waves.
Dad, I remember your smile most, when I look back and reflect on them--so bright and filled with happiness. All the memories that I can remember from when I was younger was looking up to you and seeing your smile and I hope you never lose your smile. Even when you're gray and old and only gums show.
Now that I am older, dad, I still adore you. I have an overwhelming sense of love when I look at you. I hope that one day I will marry half the man that you are. Day in and day out you have worked hard for our family. I appreciate you showing me what it is like to never give up no matter what is thrown my way. I think one of my favorite memories of us is when you told me a motto you live by, "If you can not overcome the situation, you will need to adapt." Dad, it may not seem it, but I apply that to any situation that challenges me. I will always be your little girl. Thank you, Dad, for molding me into who I am.
Thank you, Dad... for saying things I need to hear. Your wisdom and tough love molded me more than you will ever know. Even when the words were difficult for me to hear or sounded unfair; I still listen. I want to thank you for ensuring me that life gets better- and it isn't always fair. You've taught me to talk softly and not out of anger. You've taught me to stay optimistic and positive. You've taught me to stay objective and to be able to look at things from everyone's point of view.
I want to thank you for guiding me through life and dealing with my mood swings, breakups, and all the other things I throw your way. Thank you for telling me how it is and putting me in my place when I need to be. Thank you for pushing me to be my best. Some people don't believe in heroes, but they haven't met my dad. And because of your kindness, love, and wisdom, I am who I am today.
I love you, Dad.
