Like many people, I’m a lover of concerts. I don’t get to attend near as many as I would like since I am a college student, and let’s face it, I’m too broke for concert tickets. But I was fortunate enough to go to the Ellie Goulding concert with my best friend this past week and let me tell you, the girl can sing and perform. She made me a huge fan in a matter of two hours.
Prior to the concert, I knew some of her songs from the radio and a few of the less famous ones, but only because my best friend had me listen to them. But aside from that, I wasn’t a die-hard Ellie fan, so I wasn’t sure if it would be all that fun for me. When we first got there, we made our way to the stage since, thankfully, we had pit seats and were fairly close to the action. To get everyone ready for the main event, indie dance duo Matt and Kim opened up and did an awesome job hyping the crowd up. They did some covers, danced a lot and had really good personalities that put everyone in party mode.
Once Matt and Kim left the stage, the crew began setting up for Ellie. One thing that caught my attention right away was that the stage was very simple with little to no theatrical elements. This is one thing that I really enjoyed throughout the show because it was all about Ellie and her singing, rather than the special effects that most other artists rely on. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long for her to take the stage. She opened up with her song, “Aftertaste,” which is a really fun and upbeat song that got the crowd singing along with her.
She sang a few more songs and then spoke to the crowd about how she was ready for the night and felt like it would be a good one. She went on to sing some of her more famous songs like, “Something In The Way You Move” and “I Do What I Love,” and then she went to change outfits.
When she came back out, she was wearing a beautiful white dress in which she sang some of her slow and more emotional songs. During this portion of the show, she introduced the song “Army,” telling the crowd that in the midst of writing so many songs about guys and heartbreak, she wanted to write one about her best friend, and then proceeded to sing it. Being that I was with my best friend at the concert, this song was really special to see live. During that song there were pictures on the screen behind Ellie of her and her best friend, which was a really nice touch to the whole experience.
As the rest of the night went on, she continued to put on an awesome concert. She had a few more wardrobe changes and played some of her more famous songs. One thing that was different about her performance in comparison to other artists I've seen live is that you could tell she was having a genuinely good time. She danced and vibed to her music, which got the crowd doing so as well. Everyone around me was having a great time right along with her, as was I.
My favorite songs to see her sing live were “On My mind,” “Army” and “Codes.” Aside from “Army,” these two songs were so much fun to sing along with because she had such high energy while performing them, and, if you know those songs, they're the kind you want to belt out. Another really good part of the night was at the end, she went offstage as if she was done singing, but then came back after the crowd chanted her name to sing two more songs. She ended with her hit, “Love Me Like You Do,” accompanied by a massive amount of confetti exploding into the crowd.
This concert was one of the best I’ve ever been to. Ellie is a great performer (and gorgeous, might I add) quite frankly because she is a talented singer and has catchy songs that are fun to sing along to. The whole night had a very chill vibe because, like I said before, it wasn’t centered on theatrics. It was just Ellie vibing with her fans and making it a good time for everyone who was there.
