Have you ever thought about what someone goes through when they get ready in the morning? We all have our own routines, but have you ever thought about how someone else makes the same decisions you have to?
Every day, people around the world wake up and have to decide what they're going to wear that day. There are a million thoughts running through their minds. "Will I have time to do my hair just how I want it?" "Is this lipstick color too much?" We all think about the same questions, but have different answers in attempting to reach the same goal.
Women have been given these incredibly high standards for their appearance. Perfectly kept hair, a full face of makeup and a body that causes a second glance are just a few of the expectations women are burdened with. Some have been trying to make the world realize what women go through just to keep up their appearances, but they receive undeserved backlash for this act. Even if women do keep up with the standards set, there are still people who negatively critique these women by saying, "Wow you wear way too much makeup, get real," or, "She's probably a slut since she wears those tight skinny jeans." It's a double-edged sword that needs to be dulled.
This is not to say that no one is trying. Companies and people around the world are. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it is going to take a lot more than a few Dove campaigns or videos of you with makeup on and makeup off to make the world realize its cruelty. One nasty comment from someone you don't even know very well (or God forbid some rando on Tinder), can strike out all the compliments someone has received in an entire year. Girls of all shapes and sizes are being torn down because they either don't measure up, or measure up a little too well. It's hard to feel beautiful about who you are in a world where good isn't good enough no matter how many other incredible things you've accomplished.
The amount of make up someone decides to put on in the morning shouldn't be the only part of them that is significant. We are all so much more than what we choose to apply to our faces in the morning. I know this simple article won't change the world. I know it's going to take a lot in order to make a big change in how we all perceive each other, but I'm just going to put this idea out into the universe. Everyone needs to give each other a break because we can't all look the same. Someone's idea of beauty can be different from your own, but that doesn't mean you should make that person feel worse about themselves because of it.
