Beautiful Lines Of Poetry
The Imaginative Conservative

It may be everyone's least favorite unit in high school English class but it was worth it. Poetry consists of the words we never thought we needed, until we hear them.

1. “My friend, would you not tell in such high jest / To children ardent for some desperate glory / The old lie; dulce et decorum est / Pro patria morti” (Dulce et Decorum est, Wilfred Owen)

2. “Theirs not to make reply / Theirs not to reason why / Theirs but to do and die / Into the valley of Death / Road the six hundred” (Charge of the Light Brigade, Lord Alfred Tennyson)

3. “Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect life / I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night” (The Old Astronomer to His Pupil, Sarah Williams)

4. “Do not go gentle into that good night / Old rage should burn and rave at close of day / Rage, rage against the dying of the light” (Do not go gentle into that good night, Dylan Thomas)

5. “I have you fast in my fortress, / And will not let you depart, / But put you down into the dungeon / In the round-tower of my heart. / And there will I keep you forever, / Yes, forever and a day” “The Children’s Hour, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)

6. “I have promises to keep, / And miles to go before I sleep, / And miles to go before I sleep” (Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, Robert Frost)

7. “Some reckon their age by years / Some measure their life by art / But some tell their days by flood of their tears / And their lives by the moans of their heart” (The Rosary of My Tears, Abram Joseph Ryan)

8. “We have lingered in the chambers of the sea / By sea-girls wreathed in seaweed in red and brown / Till human voices wake us, and we drown” (The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, T.S. Eliot)

9. “It matter not how strait the gate / How charged with punishments the scroll / I am the master of my fate / I am the captain of my soul” (Invictus, W.E. Henley).

10. “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— / I took the one less traveled by, / And that has made all the difference” (The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
