The day after any holiday is a sad one, especially after the winter holidays, like Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. After the huge build up, most people feel empty, like there’s nothing to look forward to. To help combat these post-holiday blues, here are some things to do.
- Watch a holiday movie! While the holidays might be over, that doesn’t mean you have to let it go completely! Indulge yourself and watch any of your holiday favorites, whether it be Elf or Bad Santa. If there are no movies you like about the holiday you celebrate, do activities that remind you of your holiday. It’s important to keep yourself happy and healthy during the season.
- If possible, have a fire! This might sound weird, but having a warm fire is very comforting. My favorite part of having a fire is when my cat will lay in front of my fireplace to warm his belly.
- Visit friends and family. Seeing the ones you love can really lift your spirits, no matter what the date is! Isolation is more likely to make you sadder.
- Spread love to the people around you. Try to smile and be good to others. Giving love during the holiday season often also means receiving it.
- Treat yourself to good food and good company. Take care of yourself, because in the end, you are the most important person in your life. Making sure to take care of yourself will not only make you feel better physically, but mentally as well. Let the stress of the holidays fall behind you, and try to get back in a healthy routine.
All in all, try to have fun! I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday season!
