Be You, Be Art.

Don't confine yourself to being someone else, do the things you love, be the person you are.

Be You, Be Art.

Something that's admirable in people is their individuality. I love people who are unique and completely unconcerned with how they are perceived by others. I commend those who do their own thing, especially if that thing is quirky and a bit strange. The great Dr. Seuss once said: ”Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.” I wish we lived in a society where that statement was true in everyone’s lives. We promote individuality, but only to a certain extent. It's like “Hey you do you, but only if it fits into my definition of what’s cool.” Even though being yourself is encouraged, there are still so many “replica people”. These are those people who only do things that are trending, or people who suppress their personality to avoid judgment. These people are living in a constant state of negativity. Caring about what others think about you must take a huge emotional toll on a person’s spirits.

Judgmental human beings are insipidly superficial, and NO ONE needs that kind of negativity in their lives. If you’re having a good time, then WHY does it matter what other people’s opinions on you are? Their ideas on you are completely irrelevant. In my opinion, individuality is the most attractive thing a person could have. Be yourself. If other people have issues with that, they’re not the people who need to be in your life. It doesn’t matter what other people say or do, what matters is that you are living your life the way you believe is best. Do the things you love with no regard to what people will have to say about you. If it makes you happy (and is moral) then just Shia Labeouf it.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people do everything just because everyone else is doing something. I haaaate huge trends, and I catch myself thinking negative thoughts about people who follow them. I always have to remind myself not to worry about how others are doing life. If I want others to be nonjudgmental of those who are different, I can’t be judgmental on those who are the same. People need to be so unique that it is impossible to slap a confining label onto them. It's perfectly okay to not be a "type" of person. There's no need to try to be something you're not. It's so freeing to find the people you fit in with that you don't have to try to impress. Wannabes have a difficult life, don't be that guy.

I’ve noticed that a huge trend on our campus is for people to try to do the most hipster things possible and then post about it on VSCO while listening to some band “you’ve probably never heard of”. If you do something cool and don’t post an artsy Instagram picture about it, did you even do it? The irony is that in people’s attempts to be different from everyone, they end up being these replica people.. News flash: you’re not unique if you’re trying to be like someone else… even if that person was cool before being cool was cool.

Just be yourself because there's no need to have multiple people who are exactly the same. We are all art. Some of us are original masterpieces, others are just Hobby Lobby reprints. Everyone has so much potential to be fun and happening, so don't settle for less based on others opinions. Do the things you love, be the person you are, and inspire others.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
