When You're As Proud Of Your Parents As They Are Of You, Tell Them

We tend to think that only the parents can be proud of their kids, but not the other way around.

When You're As Proud Of Your Parents As They Are Of You, Tell Them
Cassidy Burger

My entire life I've wanted to make my parents proud. I always did my best in school and in whatever activities I participated in so that I could hear those magic words, "I'm proud of you." Don't worry, I heard it plenty of times, but I don't think this ever stops. I think that no matter what age we are we still want to continue to make our parents proud. We want them to know that we are working hard and that everything they taught us is going to good use.

While I continue to work hard in school to not only make myself proud but my parents proud as well, I sometimes forget to tell my parents how proud I am of them. Actually, I think most of us forget to tell our parents how proud we are of them. We tend to think that only the parents can be proud of their kids, but not the other way around.

I want my parents to know that I am so proud of them.

One of the proudest moments of my life was when my dad won CFO of the year for a small business in 2015. My dad is the definition of a hard worker. He works hard night and day to ensure that my family is able to live the best life possible. Not only is he the hardest working person I know, but he's also one of the kindest, funniest and overall greatest person I've ever met. I am so incredibly lucky that I get to call him my dad. He's so great that my mom has told my friends that she hopes they can find someone like my dad because he's that great.

My mom makes me proud every day too. Since day one she's been one of the strongest people in my life. She has always taught me to stand up for myself even when it is really hard to. She's always encouraged me to be myself and follow whatever dreams I may have, no matter how big they are. She's helped me through some of the toughest times of my life and has always ensured me that everything will work out in the end.

Both of my parents should be proud because they really did do a great job of raising both my sister and I. I might not always show it or say it, but I really am proud of my parents. I'm proud to be their daughter and I hope they're proud of me. I don't think they realize that by just doing everything they do for me on a daily basis makes me incredibly proud.

Now go and tell your parents how proud you are of them. They just might need to hear it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
