What You Can Do In Your Community Today

During these times some people need some extra love and spreading kindness and awareness is a good start.

What You Can Do In Your Community Today

Next week is my 21st birthday and I was really looking forward to celebrating another year around the sun with my family. However, considering the circumstances, I wanted to change my plans for my day to spread both awareness and kindness in the community. While brainstorming ideas, I settled on creating "business" cards using Microsoft Word and having each card read John 13:34, "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another" and including websites to donate on. I plan to attach each card to a flower and spread them around town in different areas. Especially now, our communities are in need of kindness from others, and what better way than using acts of kindness to both advocates for what is going on as well as spreading God's word of encouragement.

I'm here to give you some ideas on what you can do! They may seem on the smaller side - but they still can make a difference!

You can create flyers to distribute to your neighborhood by mailbox, with additional resources which can help educate on the Black Lives Matter movement.

You can go on social media and attach links in your bio to places for donation, places to sign petitions, numbers to call your government officials for change.

You can read, watch, and further educate yourselves on the BLM movement and then send links to your friends and family so they also can learn.

Spread love to those who you may not know in the community by handing out anything that has more information on ways to help.

  • Here are just a few things that you are able to do in your community in case you may not be able to attend a protest in your area. The main thing right now is to start a discussion with those around you! Making people aware of the BLM movement is the first step in change, so do what you can and support our black brothers and sisters. We are here to fight for human rights that everyone should have, regardless of skin color. We are protesting for all those who wrongfully lost their lives, those who are oppressed, and those who are in need of justice. We need change and it starts with you and me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
