Recently Barbie has undergone a series of backlash for their misrepresentation of the typical woman. The standard Barbie has bright blonde hair, long legs, and a tiny little waist. So, they decided to add a few things to their line of children's dolls to encompass all types of women. Women come in all shapes and sizes and the Barbie company felt like each type should be included in the doll that so many young girls look at every day. The director of consumer insights stated, "We have to let girls know it doesn't matter what shape you come in, that anything is possible." So, here are a few pictures to prove that the company really is trying.
To start, here is an example of the original Barbie:
Here are some examples of the new line of Barbie:
Curvy
Tall
Petite
These are just a few examples of how Barbie has really tried to show that they are supportive of all body types and nationalities. They even have a girl with vibrantly colored hair that aims to include the girls that have a more exotic side. They have been under fire for so long for their unrealistic dolls and they have really tried to change it up.
Personally, I think that this is a positive change. There is so much body shaming that goes around that it has become such a hateful thing. Women get mocked for being curvy and needing to go on a diet. But, women also get mocked for being too skinny and starving themselves. Perfection is not something that girls think they can obtain in today's society. But in all actuality, we ARE perfect. Hear me out. Every single girl out there is beautiful in their own way because God created her in His own image. Whether you are curvy, skinny, tall, or short, you are made in the PERFECT image of God. Just think about that for a minute. The God of the universe made each human being for a purpose that fits into His plan. So enough with the body shaming. Enough with the mean names and the judgement. Love yourself the way that the heavenly father does and love your fellow girl as well. Because I promise you that every single one of you are uniquely beautiful. Take things like Barbie's changes and fight it.
"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." ~ Psalm 139:14
