If you're like me, someone who decided to up and move almost 3,000 miles away from home and can't go home for the holidays, then this is for you. While I'm in Philadelphia and my family is back home in Portland, it's going to be tough not being with them for Christmas. This is the very first time. Lucky for me, I live with my best friend and her family has taken me like a stray dog. I spent Thanksgiving with them and I felt so loved and didn't feel like a burden. With Christmas five days away (as I write this) and my 23rd birthday in eight, I suddenly don't feel alone or lost this holiday. I came up with a list of things if you're unable to be home for the holidays too:
1. Send your family back home a Christmas card
2. Wear Christmas themed pajamas or buy new ones
Target has some of the best themed pajamas!
3. Do holiday stuff with your friends and their families
4. Bake some holiday cookies!
5. On your day off, watch a ton of Christmas movies
Everyone needs a good binge of Christmas movies every now and then.
6. If you're in a new city, go see the city's tree or other things they offer
7. Make your own/new traditions
8. Call or FaceTime your family on Christmas morning
Even with the time difference, they better answer me...
9. Go around town and see all of the Christmas lights
I do this practically every. single. night.
10. Send gifts to everyone back home, even if they're going to be late
11. Spend time surrounding yourself in Christmas cheer to keep your mind occupied
I think I've been working a lot, and my friends have kept me busy enough that I haven't even really thought about how weird it'll be not being home.
