How To Successfully Avoid Thanksgiving Dinner With The Family

Well everyone, it's that time of year again. Thanksgiving will soon be here, an annual day dedicated to eating food and spending time with family. So, of course, this is also the time of year to start coming up with reasons and potential excuses for getting out of Thanksgiving with the family. I mean, can we really be expected to spend Thanksgiving with the same family every single year? We're bound to get sick of them eventually, right?

If you're not particularly looking forward to this year's big Turkey feast, here are some ideas to consider for finding a way out without looking like a gigantic jerk who hates spending time with their family.

A classic option is always saying that you have to work. Families understand that work is important, so they might be somewhat understanding if you say you have to work instead of attending dinner this year. Of course, this will prove difficult for some since many places of employment are closed on holidays such as Thanksgiving.

If you're lucky enough to work somewhere that will stay open, then there is your excuse right there. If not, I would probably suggest that you start applying to places now, in the hopes that by the time Thanksgiving comes, you will have found a suitable place of employment that will allow you the privilege of working on turkey day, and therefore avoiding your family.

You can also fake being sick, and this will prove another solid option for those looking to chill on Thanksgiving instead of forcing yourself to make painful small talk with family members. However, you must really commit to faking the sickness, otherwise your family may suspect that you are not being completely honest. But, if you feel like you can pull it off, then by all means go for it.

Or, you could also tell your family that you will be volunteering at a homeless shelter or food bank this Thanksgiving, because this is another good way to free up your day. It is important to help those less fortunate than us, because that's part of what Thanksgiving is really all about. At least, that's what you can tell your family so that you don't want to spend the time day with them.

If you are feeling particularly charitable, maybe actually do something nice and literally go help out at a food bank, otherwise just use it as an excuse not to see your family members. They can't really get upset with you for wanting to spend your Thanksgiving doing this type of work, because then they would be the selfish ones. If you can make your family think they are being selfish for making you spend Thanksgiving with them, then you have achieved the ultimate goal of Thanksgiving avoidance.

If you're just not feeling it when it comes to seeing your family this year for Thanksgiving dinner, make sure to follow this advice and you will be sure to spend turkey day completely alone, and honestly, what could be better than that?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
