Austin, Texas- a great city to live in, but an even better city for breakfast tacos. If you’re new to the city and are looking for breakfast tacos nearby UT’s campus, here are a few locations you won’t want to miss out on.
1. Torchy’s
Just a short walk from campus, everyone who goes to UT knows about Torchy’s. Not only that, but Torchy’s is an Austin original that you can now find in other cities and states. This just goes to show how popular they are and how tasty their tacos are! Regardless of what time you get up, their breakfast tacos are available all day. You can choose from the classic breakfast taco choices of Bacon, egg, and cheese or chorizo egg, and cheese among others. In addition, they also have their own house specials. The Wrangler is a favorite- which has scrambled eggs, potatoes, smoked beef brisket (mmm), and cheese.
2. Taco Deli
Another Austin favorite with many locations that is just one short bus ride away from campus. Taco Deli is famous for their tacos, but also for their different types of salsas. You can buy a few different types of their salsa by the tub from a Whole Foods store. (That’s how delicious it is!) Their breakfast tacos are served from 7-11am Monday-Friday and all day on the weekend. With build your own options or house favorites, you can’t go wrong. One of their most popular choices is The Otto, which has organic refried black beans, bacon, avocado, and Monterrey Jack cheese.
3. Juan in a Million
Although this one is a trek from campus, Juan in a Million will be worth every minute. This popular taco spot almost always has a line. All of their choices are very authentic, delicious, and filling. Their famous Don Juan Taco is a gigantic breakfast taco that is made with their special secret combination of potato, egg, bacon, and cheese. From there, you pick how many tortillas you need. I usually go with 4- that’s how big it is!
4. Taco Joint
Located just a few blocks north of campus, this convenient spot is a true treat! If you’re an engineering major or have many classes in the engineering building area, this is just up the street from the part of campus you frequent. They have quite a selection of breakfast tacos- from a whole bunch of the classics to their own unique specials. You can pick from a list of tacos and make it a UT Cup-It Combo for when you’re on the go! For this combo, you’ll get a taco (or two, you pick) and bring a cup and they’ll fill it up with coffee. A very cheap and delicious breakfast option for when you don’t have time or energy.
5. Keso’s Taco House
Calling all cheese lovers. Abviously, their name says it all. If you’re addicted to queso (or keso) this is your spot. Just located off of MLK, you can get your breakfast taco fix all day long. Their Soco Taco is an easy favorite. It’s a migas taco with corn tortilla chips, pico, eggs, and their signature keso, all on a flour tortilla.
Happy eating, y'all!
