In January of 1993, the world lost an amazing woman. The incredible actress, a fashion icon, trendsetter, and a genuine woman who had passed away too early was Audrey Hepburn.
Audrey Hepburn is usually known for being an actress during the Golden Age. Although Roman Holliday was her first starring role, many people know Audrey Hepburn from the classic, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In this movie, the opening scene is her in her well-known black dress with her hair in a bun, wearing pearls. Audrey Hepburn did play other lead roles. Although she usually was in romantic comedies, she did star in a thriller called Charade.
Even though Audrey Hepburn is famous for her movies, she was also famous on Broadway. In fact, Audrey Hepburn is 1 of 14 actors and actresses to achieve the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). Some people may not know all of Audrey Hepburn’s appearances in famous roles but pretty much everyone knows her for being a fashion icon and a trend setter.
First of all, Audrey Hepburn had an affair with John F. Kennedy before Marilyn Monroe did. She did many things before others making her the famous innovator that she remains today. She portrayed a very simple fashion style; before Audrey Hepburn made it fashionable to wear pants and flats, many women were only wearing skirts and high heels. Thanks, Audrey Hepburn.
Audrey Hepburn’s style was simple yet classy at the same time. Many people know her for her simple little black dresses, which are still popular today. Her fashion was a sign that she was a true lady and was very easy to recreate. Audrey Hepburn was all about enforcing positive body images by saying, “The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure she carries or the way she combs her hair”. Audrey Hepburn also wanted women to know that “The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides”. In order for a woman to have beautiful eyes to show the doorway to her heart, Audrey Hepburn said, “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone”.
If for some reason a woman is feeling alone and feeling like the world is impossible, Audrey Hepburn said, “Nothing is impossible the word itself says ‘I’m possible’”. She wanted to encourage women to believe in themselves because she said, “I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles”. Whenever you need to get away and remind yourself of how great love is, go to Paris because Audrey Hepburn said, “Paris is always a good idea!"
Take a moment to stop and realize all the good that Audrey Hepburn did for the world. Not only did she give us plenty of movies to watch when we are feeling down but she taught us not to feel bad about ourselves. She helped to start the trends that became iconic and common in society today. She made being a classy lady the goal of every woman and taught them that they could do that by wearing different clothes.
Thank you, Audrey Hepburn, for all that you did, you were an incredible actress, a fashion icon, trend setter, and a genuine woman who passed away way too early.
