Dear Professor,
I realize that class is important. Learning is the reason why I’m here at college and if I don’t learn, what is the point? My parents spend a lot of money for me to get a degree and I really cherish that.
But your strict attendance policy is part of why I have trust issues. One semester is about four months, give or take a few weeks, correct? Then why on God’s green earth do you only give me two skips? Two. Or you don’t give any unexcused absences at all. It’s insane. I know I’m supposed to use these when I’m sick or I’m exhausted and can’t possibly get out of bed, but my God man what if I’m sick for a week? You don’t want me infecting any other students in the class, let alone infecting the teacher that enforces the policy. What if I’m too tired to come to class that day? College is a lot of work and sometimes you have to make sacrifices.
One time I had a professor do the math and show all of the financial information about skipping a class. Very savage. It opened up my eyes a little but that’s beside the point.
Let me give you a scenario. Midterms have come and gone, and students have used all ~two~ of their skips in the semester. They were sick and used both of them. Now they have a family emergency at home and they can’t go home because if they skip the class, they’ll fail. How is that fair? I’m a bit confused.
I say just let us use however many skips we want to use and see who fails on their own. There are some pretty lazy people in this world, let me tell you. Food for thought?
Sincerely,
Annoyed Students
