A-Town Astrology: OU Bars

As an avid magazine reader, my first instinct whenever I open one is to flip to the horoscope section. Although I never believed in astrology, it’s always fun to imagine your horoscope coming true. At some point this year, I started noticing a lot of zodiac- and astrology-related posts popping up on Tumblr, and I found it amusing to see which TV show character I was based on the fact I'm a Gemini. I eventually became so obsessed that I researched all of the signs, made a zodiac queens group text with my fellow astrology-loving friends and learned my moon and rising signs.

Based off of extensive research of the zodiac tag on Tumblr, here is my analysis of which OU bar relates to which zodiac sign:

Aries
Aries are competitive, and what’s more competitive than sports? Pigskin is one of the best places in town to catch a sports game and argue with your friends over whether the Indians or Reds will do better this year. Aries are also aggressive and energetic, meaning they can fight their way to the bar on crowded nights.

Taurus
Taurus are often seen as the chill sign, but they know how to get crazy on occasion. Lucky's is calm most nights of the week, except for Wednesday nights when they serve $5 liquor pitchers. The patient Taurus wouldn’t mind waiting in line and picking up pitchers for their crew. Taurus are also known for their love of food, and Lucky's late-night nachos will satisfy their cravings.

Gemini
Gemini are chatty, sociable and like to have fun. Crystal is often one of the most packed bars, and Gemini who get bored easily can bounce around among acquaintances from top bar to bottom bar. Gemini would also love standing on the upper level of J Bar, where they can look down below and scout out who they want to talk to next.

Cancer
Cancers tend to be emotional but are also good at nurturing others. Courtside tends to attract drama, and Cancers are either breaking down or comforting their friends who are breaking down.

Leo
Known as prideful and protective, alumni favorites Broney's and The C.I. fit Leo perfectly. The love that current students and alumni have for these bars prove that Bobcat pride lasts a lifetime.

Virgo
Virgo is one of the most reliable signs, and Red Brick is every freshman’s most reliable bar. Red Brick is the only bar that allows people 18 and over to enter. It continues to be reliable for upperclassmen as a cheap drink destination during their Brick Break happy hour.

Libra
Libra are easygoing and indecisive. Jackie O’s has a chill atmosphere where Libras can take their time deciding what to order. It's also one of Athens’ classier establishments, which fits Libra's image-obsessed side.

Scorpio
Often stereotyped as the resentful and jealous sign, a bar that serves “the destroyer” is perfect for a Scorpio. Scorpio are also known for being passionate and magnetic, and whether you are on the dance floor upstairs or in the cellar below, there are many places in Stephen's On Court for a Scorpio to put you under their spell.

Sagittarius
Sagittarius are friendly, fun and alternative. Tony's Tavern has an easygoing vibe, but their Hot Nut shot can easily liven you up!

Capricorn
After a day of hard work, the serious and responsible Capricorn would love the more sophisticated atmosphere of the Overhang. People rarely get trashed at the Overhang and are there to have good, measured fun in order to unwind.

Aquarius
Aquarius are adventurous, chaotic and rebellious. Whenever you enter Pawpurr's, it’s pretty likely you’ll see people dancing on the platform and having a good time. It’s also often packed and hard to get a drink, but once you get a few Blackout cocktails in you, it’s likely you’ll do just that.

Pisces
The Pisces symbol is a fish, so obviously the bar that serves an aquarium fits them best. The easygoing sign perfectly fits in with the Pub, which is laid-back but always fun. Pisces are also known for being imaginative and would appreciate the witty slogans that the Pub puts on the chalkboard by the door.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
